New General host position and more Anime host submissions needed!

After much thought and planning, I have fused the Anime Podcast and Video Game Podcast into one mega show that will be available (every other week) via BitTorrent.*

This mega show will be glued together by a “generalâ€

Nope, don’t worry about that, I already have all of the previous submissions downloaded and saved. Furthermore, if someone has already submitted an audition and wants to also be a general host... just send me a regular 'ol text PM.

If there aren't enough submissions for the general host position, we'll let other hosts fill the gaps.

As in twice a month... to give everyone a week break and more time for planning. This is the first time I have done anything like this, so I am going to take it slow at first.

well, speaking from the small amount of experience i've had from making my own podcast (yeah, the one i just started), the hardest part for me is deciding what my podcast is going to consist of that week, after that it's just a matter of writing my script and making sure everything else is in line for me to record, then i insert all the necessary music and stuff and export it to mp3 then upload it to my podcasting site and i'm done, next to deciding what i'm going to do, the hardest part is getting a good recording of the script since i haven't quite figured out all the tricks to my microphone, but i think that since there are more people involved in these podcasts, that two weeks between episodes is about right, i do mine weekly

You might want to change this sentence then...bi-weekly sounds a lot like twice a week, not twice a month. This might be scaring people away from applying for the show. (Twice a week is an amazingingly hectic schedule).

Suggested alteration: replace bi-weekly with Bi-monthly or twice a month

Yeah, I see what you mean, mechana2015. My first impression for bi-weekly was alway twice a month, though.

I don't think I'll have time to put anything together before Easter break. (Also, the last few days have had spotty net performance for me. :( ) What are the odds I can beg for mercy? :P

At any rate, I love podcasting, and it sounds like this'll be a way to do one on something I love. I understand addressing the anime and video game angles, but since this is the *Christian* Anime Alliance, would it be appropriate to address that in any capacity (besides that any reviews would be from a Christian moral perspective, I'd assume.) It's about 2:30AM for me, so I'm kind of dry on specific ideas, but I think it'd be cool.

In a forum at LiveJournal I proposed that a 'radio-play' of sorts should be developed. I mean, we should go write something and then various members of the CAA can perform it. They can just record their lines and 'send' it to a compiler whose insane job it is to put it all together. Off course this would be an incredible job and it can't be done regularly, but I think it might be crazy enough if we keep the plays short and small.

That's it - throw peanuts at me and my idea now if you want to.

I actually asked a passing friend to see what he thought too... he came up with the same thing I did... I figured if noone else got it wrong I'd leavie it alone... but... he failed the same way I did..

I would like auditions to be by the deadline (for an early show prep meeting), but I’ll still listen to submissions after the deadline. However, approved auditioners who submit after the deadline, may not be part of the first show.

You mean like a small devotional or prayer request reading? Not a bad idea. Man, I’d love Rev. Doc to come on, but he’s on dial-up. Anyway, yes, I’m open to additions, but right now, this show is simply to entertain and inform our community at CAA. Once I have a crew of hosts, I’ll discuss this with them and the rest of the mod staff.

While thinking about that idea, I can’t help but smile. I’m all for trying it at least one and airing it. First though, I’d liked to get this podcast off the ground. Baby steps.

Just an idea here, but couldn't he pre-record something and send it in?

That's one of the biggest misconceptions about pod casts, actually.

You can view a pod cast on any computer.

So it's similar to the phenomenon of calling soft drinks "cokes" or photocopies "xeroxes" generically, where the best known brand becomes the standard name of the item?

I actually think they were being referred to as podcasts before I-Tunes etc. began supporting them... I know of a few 'casts that outdated the release of the version of I-tunes that introdeced them to the general public by almost a year.

I'm still suprised we arent doing this through iTunes (its so easy, just imput the RSS feed and tada!).

Speaking as a long time podcaster/podloader, the ease it is to have it downloaded every time the RSS is updated is incredible. I have over 20 subsciptions and every day they are updated, everything from Ask A Ninja video to The Bored Again Christian radio show, podcasting through iTunes is also a way to get the word out about CAA. The sheer number of people who use is is astounding.

Just a thought.

These will likely be audio podcasts, making it difficult to do over youtube or google video.

Locke (and the others who have asked): The reason we aren't doing this as a direct download (via iTunes or any other RSS distributor) is the bandwidth thing. With bittorrent, we can limit the bandwidth going out from CAA without really destroying the overall experience; you'll still be able to download from, forexample, Link's machine even when the main CAA box doesn't have more room available.

Think what would happen if there was a decently popular podcast here. Maybe one or two people could get it, that would be it. Then no one would be able to get to the podcast, CAA or our sponsor site.

And, if we have some who can't download via bittorrent (college firewall, ect), you could just get some bittorent savvy friend of yours to upload it to yousendit.com . But really, bittorent is a fantastic tool if your computer can use it.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Aw, foo. This is what happens when you lead a busy life. I saw the announcement on the main page and thought, "Rai, you've been in competitive speech and debate for what . . . 5 years now, and Lord knows you have the FACE for it . . so why not give this radio thing a try?"

And then I saw the deadline. Too bad the DeLorean's at the body shop.

But~! If you have any need for someone to do . . . something, give me a call and I'll see what I can do.
