I feel selfish, but...

We got report cards today. I didn't do so well in math, and I know I'm going to get into more trouble, I just don't know how much. I ask that you pray my mom will go easy on me. I do good, but she overestimates my abilities. Algebra II is HARD. I'm afraid I didn't pull it up but one point, to an 82. I just ask you that you pray she'll be easy on me. I don't ever remember a time I've been more nervous about grades. Other grades are 98, 97, 91, 94 or something...oh, and a 90. But she doesn't seem to care that they are good grades, the bad one is all that matters to her. I thank you, because I feel selfish about this.

Crap! You get good grades! An 82 is definetly nothing to be ashamed of! Some parents need to let their kids breathe and not put unbearable pressure on them.
I'll pray for you mate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unlike Australia where 50% is a fail, the American point for failure is much higher (like 70 or so...).

Anyway, keep in mind that report cards and tests are really only designed for you to find out your weak spots. You do great in the other subjects (nicely done btw :thumb: ), but algebra isnt your best subject. There is no need to be ashamed of that, and tell your mum not to be either. There are only a few people that can be good at almsot everything... we shouldn't pressure anyone to be like them. That will only ask for heartache and damaged relationships.

I'll be praying for ya. Keep us updated k?

If it's any consolation, I'm getting C's in 3 of 5 classes, and an A in only one (that one being Painting...whoopie)

But I shall pray for you. ^_^ I know how important grades are, and I hope your mom will understand.

Not where I go to school! You'd have a C- if you got 70%.

It's ok, I know how you feel. It's sometimes hard if you are used to getting A's not to feel like a B is a failure, but remember that a 4.0 isn't the most important thing in the world, and you can still get good scholarships if you have a B or two. I will pray that your mom realizes this.

Tantamount to failure - a 69 or below is a D, which is basically treated just like an F although one is still passing the class. No consolation I think here that I managed to bomb Algebra II twice in a row.

I can help with your Algebra if you need it. And yeah, don't feel bad about your grades. Here in California, those scores are passing grades.

I'll pray for you, I know what it's like when you do your best and see no improvement. I'll pray that you're mom will keep your effort, not your grade, in mind. Sometimes, the best you can do is the bast you can do. Also, if there's ever a time that you don't understand something, feel free to pm me. I'm taking Algebra 2 also, so maybe I can be of some kind of help. ;)
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

82 isn't bad. I agree, good grades are important but everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

Have you talked to your mother about the pressure she's putting on you? If you haven't, I think you should... explain to her your concerns and the fact you are trying as hard as you can. I understand that some parents tend to put much more pressure on their kids, but if you open up you may help her understand where you are coming from. Never know. No matter what happens just remember there's no shame in not getting straight A's as long as you try as hard as you could.

Anyways, I'll be praying for ya.

Amen to that. I once thought for a long time that I had to get straight A's to make my parents happy. One evening it finally came clear that as long as I could account for doing my best, the grade didn't matter.
