The Avatar wasnt in a vehicle... Nor were the court.
10 Banshees were in a Wave Serpent
6 Fire Dragons were in a Falcon.

Phil is a kinda new player, only had a handful of games ever. We weren't really playing hardcore serious anyway...

Court of the Young King is available only to a Biel-Tan (or Biel-Tan derivative) army.

The Avatar has a retinue or 3-5 Eldar Exarchs from:

Striking Scorpion
Howling Banshee
Fire Dragon
Dire avenger.

They can have all their normal upgrades and Exarch skills, except the Striking Scorpion can't have stealth (infiltration rules).

It's a seriously hard unit.
I had 3 Banshees with Executioners and Acrobatic (to get the heavy weapons),

1 Scorpion with a Scorpions Claw (power fist with built in shuriken catapult)

1 Fire Dragon with Firepike (18" meltagun) and burning fist (re-roll failed to wounds in combat, count as having a power weapon)

---------------------------------------

I don't have a Wraithlord yet! I will get one and slap a Starcannon on it! But I just don't have one... or three... yet.

---------------------------------------

Next time I play I'll be using my own experimental rules for Avatar equipment. Every other Daemon has equipment, it's only fair the avatar does too!

Armour of Khaine - 3+ normal save. Still has his 5+ invulnerable.

Scythe of Souls - gets +D3 attacks when charging.

Veil of Midnight - Must use night fighting rules to see him.

Those are confirmed ideas, no points values yet.... And yes they are what my Grim Reaper avatar has! Muhahahahaha.

I've thought that since each Aspect is an embodiment of one part of Khaine, it would make sense if the Avatar had Aspect'ish equipment or skills. Maybe give him 2 Exarch skills or Exarch equipment like banshee masks or Swooping hawk wings... I dunno though...
I am the Reaper of Souls... and it's harvest time.

I just want my Avatar to have a powerweapon. <_< But the avatar is easily killed by stwarms of... any cheep unit... Sure he is hard to hit in hand-to-hand, and darn tough, but with only a 5+ save, somthing has got to give. XP

But I would pick Asurman (the Pheonix Lord) anyday over an Avatar. Not only does he have a 3+ involnerable save, but he can only be hit on a 6+ in close combat and His Dire Sword has a chance to kill ANY (non-armor) unit out-right.

Have any of you Eldar players ever tried the rules for Harliquins? Or played against them?

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Now that you got me thinking about WriathLords, I thought I would thow up some pictures of my good-old favorite units. ^_~

Bear in mind that these guys were some of my first paint jobs, and truethfully never really completed.

Here is my first on. Orriginally I liked the Saim Han colors the best... Though I never played with their army list.
Image

Later, I revised my personal army color sceme as black white and red. Here is the Wraith Lord that was a biproduct of that:
Image

I wish I had taken a picture of my Wraith Guard, they look a lot cooler... Maybe tomorrow.

Since Im putting up pictures, here is the beginnning of my Avatar. The idea was to make him seam like Fire or Molten lava with a Black (cooled Lava-ish) armor. Of course lots of gold and jems. Let me know how you think hes progressing.
Image

Image

Finally, here is my Vindicare Assasain that I add to my Space Wolves army once in a while. I liked the moddel, but wanted mine to be different, so I re positioned the pistol arm and turning the head to make it seam as though this was the weapon he was firing.
Image

Oh, and here is my Leman Russ Exterminator (unfinished). Another reason I like the Space Wolves is that they are the only Chapter that can use this tank. ;)
Image

...You know... These pictures all looked a lot lighter on my computer... O_o Sorry about that. >_<

We usually play that a model has to painted with atleast 3 colors to be playable. So we always end up playing with partially finished minis. Though if you wanted to play at a GW or a tournament you would need to have your whole army painted. (or atleast the ones you plan on playing with).

Really, I wouldnt care if my oponent haddent painted theirs at all. I just enjoy the game. ^_~

I just want my Avatar to have a powerweapon.

He's a monsterous creature. He has a power weapon as standard.
He also has the Wailing doom, which is a power weapon
*cough*redundancy*cough*

I like Wraithlords... especially with Starcannons. they're my favourite eldar weapon, next to the good old Reaper Launcher.

Monsterous Creature:
Can ALWAYS be aimed at in shooting regardless of other restrictions. Next to units, behind units, etc. Makes no difference. Unless it's near totally concealed it can be shot at.
Counts as having a power weapon.
Rolls 2D6+ Strength against vehicles.

That first part sounds a bit like the "Shoot the Big Ones" Rule, did they incorporate these two together in the new rules? I dont think you can single out the Avatar in combat as its an independent character... But it is a Monsterous Creature... O_o The part about 2d6 for armor penetration sounds familiar.

Maybe I should just pull out my Codex for my own verification. :duh:

Ok right out of 4th Edition rules:

Movement: Re-roll any difficult terrain rolls as the creature smashes aside everything in its way.

Shooting: May shoot any target in range, not just the closest. May fire 2 weapons a turn

New shooting rules, you must assault the unit you shoot at, to shoot as further away unit you must make a leadership test, except if you are shooting 'large ones' which are monsterous creatures, tanks and artillery.

Assault: Ignore armour saves, roll 2D6 armour penetration.

Ok, more pictures. I finally got around to taking some pictures of one of my Wraith Guards. Like all my other models, he is not 100% complete. <_<

But here are some pictures anyway. He is painted in my Personal Craftworld colors of Red Black and White. Im really sorry these pictures are so dark again... I guess there just isnt a lot of light in my kitchen (the flash always makes a big glare of the paint).

Anyway, here we go:

Image

Image

These guys all follow the same general color scheme but each head is painted with a slightly different design. I just happen to really like this one. ;)

EDIT: I realize you cant really see the plate highlights in these pictures... I will have to try and take some better ones next time... >_<

Thanks. But I think anyone can paint good. It just takes a lot a patience and some fundamental rules that apply to just about any model.

Layers. Painting in layers helps a lot. Undercoat a color that will compliment your color scheme. (I like black because then it settles into those cracks that are hard to paint and looks like shadow.^_^ )

Drybrushing works for some, but I prefer precision strokes. And I feel like Drybrushing messes up my brushes... >_<

For Details I like to get a really really really tiny brush with a good point on it (like a needle). I get just one little drop on the tip and gently slide the color onto the model.

If your hands tend to wobble when painted (messing up thos details) I recomend bracing your painting hand on somthing solid. Or (what I tend to do) hold the model in one hand (with your thum and index finger) and your brush in the other (off the table). Now put the bases of both your palms together. Your hands will brace one another, and if you happen to wobble, everything will wobble, thus avoiding frustrating mistakes. This also lets you move the model to the best position for paint aplication and lighting.

Another trick I like to do is ribbing armor, or defined plates. Many people do this by drybrushing, but I think its a lot easier to take a find point brush and run a solid line.
Anyway, the idea is that painted armor will fade/wearout. Take the color of the armor plate in question and dull it a little with white, then run a very thin line along the outer most point of the armors edge (the part that would logically fade/wear first). To emphasise this, take he same armor color and add a little black to it (darken it up) or just use black its self (that what I do). Now take this darker color only on the very tip of your brush and slip it into those cracks between armor places or joints. This effect can also be attained by putting just that drop of black on your brush tip and then dipping it quick into your water (just a very little). The water will help the paint run down through the cracks/joints of your the models armor.

NOTE: If using water in this way, its important to make sure all other paint on the model is dry and bring a tissue or papertowel to dab out those mistakes (or where the water misses its mark) A good example of this is in the Striking Scorpion a shared a while back:
Image

Oh! It also helps to paint the inner most portions of the model first. That is, pain all the under clothing before the outer armor, as its much easier to cover a mistake on the outer most surface then one down 2 layers...

Well, I hope this helps atleast a little and thanks agian for the posative comments.

The best way to get layered paint to work is start with the darkest shade of that colour.

E.g. Eldar Dark Reaper. This is how I do mine.

Midnight Blue --> Enchanted blue --> Ice blue

Undercoat Black.

paint Midnight Blue.

Armour plating:

Paint 1/4 in with enchanted blue. (so 3/4 of the plate is midnight and 1/4 toward one edge is enchanted)

paint edges Ice Blue.

Unfortunately I have no pictures of that right now.
-------------------------
Bone technique.

This is my heavily excessive bone technique. Good on single characters and small squads. Not so good on a skeleton army!

Undercoat: Black. I undercoat EVERYTHING black

Base coat: Scorched Brown

paint on Bestial brown
semi-drybrush semi-paint on a 50/50 mix of Bestial brown and bleached bone. It should look pinky.

drybrush on bleached bone.

paint on a very very thin layer of 75/25 skull white/bleached bone mix.

you should now have a very lovely looking bone colour
--------------------------------------------------------

Now Orks!!!

Ork fluff says that Orks get darker as they get older. They also get more muscly. So I think that Warbosses should be darker than Nobs who are darker than Boyz.

Warboss - Black.

50/50 Black, Dark Angels mix painted on.
paint/drybrush Dark Angels on muscles.

You can raise that up slightly with a dark angels/snot green mix if you want. I didnt. I gave my warboss Red face paint instead.

Nobs are similar. Except give them a 20/80 black to dark angels base. And a 20/80 snot green/dark angels highlight.

Boyz are 100% dark angel base and a 50/50 dark angel snot mix.

Not that complicated or in-depth but it looks just fine!

Ork metal is: Black --> Tin Bitz --> Boltgun metal drybrush. FINISHED!
I think Ork metal like that is perfect.
I am the Reaper of Souls... and it's harvest time.

Turn 1

our side got the first turn and moved most of our army up the field getting into slightly better defensive positions facing off against the chaos on the left & the eldar on the right, while my terminators began their advance towards a forest between me & the eldar. my allies stealth suits had infiltrated up to the center of the field and jumped out opening fire on the chaos marines and killing a few each, while managing to pin them in place with the gun drones, then jumping back behind woods & hills.

the opponents first turn they moved the chaos terminators forward and opened up shooting at my tactical squad with the nasty reaper autocannon, killing 2 of my guys. while the rest of the eldar moved forward uning fleet of foot where possible.

Turn 2

Our next turn was a prominisng one with my plasma cannon managing to kill a couple of the terminators (1 or 2 i cant remember exactly) while the stealth suits continued their fire at the chaos lines killing some more terminators & chaos marines. the broadsides were taking potshots at the avatar & wraithlord at this point managing to take a wound of the wraithlord but the avatar managed to save his wound.

the counterattack came with the wraithlord & terminators opening up on my tactical squad yet again making me lose anotehr model but my dark angels stood resolute.
the eldat still advancing up the field towards the elusive stealth suits & my deathwing terminators(which had drew near the edge of the forest)

Turn 3

movement wise we didn't do much this turn, the stealth suits doing their customary jump out & shoot this time all against the chaos terminators managing to kill 2. my plasma cannon killed 1 more. then teh stealth suits jumed ,back to the safety of cover. the broadsides taking some potshots at the wraithlord & avatar but failed to do anything this turn. my terminators now advanced to the edge of the forest still stay far enough from the eldar.

the eldar continiued to advance to the edge of the forest & terminators with the avatar a little behind them, while the dire avengers advancing into the forest which a team of stealth suits were hiding in, resolute in ending the threat they posed. a chaos unit now had line of sight on a couple of stealth suit models after moving and rapid fired their bolters in an attempt to kill them, but only managing to take down the 2 gun drones.the wraithlord again continued its persistent shooting at my tactical squad, leaving only 3 models left in the squad, while they shrugged of the casualties in a way that only space marines can. the 2 chaos terminators that were left unleashed tehir reaper autocannon at teh fire warriors killing 3 models.

Turn 4

the fire warriors advanced towards one of the chaos marine units and managing to kill 4 chaos marines leaving the squad down to 3 man. the stealth suits continuing their harrasment of the enemy shooting at the dire avengers & teh far left chaos mairne unit gunning down 1 marine & 2 dire avengers. ttehb broadsised continued laying down fire at teh wraithlord & avatar managing to wound the wraithlord. my plasma cannon then killed another terminator making the squald lose bothe their morale check & teh re-roll so the lone model broke and ran. teh deathwing advanced into the forest enough to see the eldar thorough it and then unleashed a deadly hail of fire with the assault cannons & storm bolters which managed to kill the howling banshee squad down to the last man!

the chaos marines then rapid fired at the stealth suits & fire warriors managing to kill 2 suits leaviing a lone stealth suit on that flank of the battlefield. the wraithlord managed to miss all its shots with the starcannon, much to my relief. the dire avangers tried to shoot at the other stealth suit team but to no avail. the warp spiders now jumpedinto teh face of my terminators managing to kill 2 of the dreaded marines. then tehy jumped out as far as teh dice roll would let them.

Turn 5 - final turn

the lone stealth suit jumped out in front of the biggest remaining chaos marine unit and shot at them, though they managed to save it, the fire warriors then finishing off the last of the other chaos marine unit. my plasma cannon then managed to take the last wound off of the wraithlord, saving it from finishing off my tactical squad with its return fire. the second unit of stealth suits managed to kill the warp spiders, which gave my terminators an open field to fire at the wounded avatar. tehy then obliged by gutting it with assault cannon fire, and it failed all of its 5+ saving throws.

the remaining chaos marine squad managed to kill the final stealth suit, and the dire avengers charged the other squad of stealth suits that my friend had happened to forget to jump back on our turn (and i never noticed) they managed to wipe out the entire squad, with the exarch killing 1 instantly with his diresword.

The game ended at that, as it was getting pretty late and we had to pack up and head home, and was a fair win on our part, and i was happy with the performance of my deathwing terminators, as this is the first battle i've been able to test them in. mind you i've seen both sides of the card in this game for terminators as i saw what happened to my opponents chaos terminators, which lost him a massve chunk of his army in victory points.
i think its safe to say taht terminators are nasty but you don't want to use em alot, as tehy may cost the victory in teh long run.

my tau ally realised at the end of the game that he had completely forgot about the missiles on his broadsides.

Oh man, you have me on the edge of my seat here... You just cant leave me hanging like that Seph!

Let me know the rest of the battle when you get a chance.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

cool, i've got a bunch more stuff now, and me & my friends have been playin quite alot. last game i played was a 1600pt team game with the imperium (my dark angels plus imperial guard) vs tau using the new tau codex. it was an interesting game turned out as a draw. move and shoot broadsides can be quite nasty.
