Sensitive question. . .

Postby MillyFan » Thu Sep 18, 2003 1:32 am

Can I link to the myotaku.com blog I use on CAA?

The reason I ask this is that my blog might be seen as *questionable* in some ways. Not that I'm perverted and making sexual posts to it or using bad language or anything like that :stressed: :red: :sniffle: but there's some, erm. . .stuff I don't want to mention for fear of being banned.

That is occasional, however, and most of my posts to the blog are going to be mini-rants, updates on fanfics I am personally writing, occasional original commentary and humor, and some other things that wouldn't be that offensive.

My question is, would I be allowed to link to the blog in my profile or in one post, or would it be against the rules to do so?

Can you censor your blog? You know, edit old posts out or something?
I'm back to make a post or two every couple years...

Thing is, I do not know if I will make future posts related to shounen ai or not. I also don't wish to edit my posts. So I guess my blog is a no-go for the CAA, and that's fine too. No big deal :)

Update: there is now a link to my blog in my profile, as I have obtained permission from the admin staff to link to it there alone. Proper warnings are posted, so if you're stumbled by my back or possibly future posts, don't click it.

As for your post, Gremio, some of us are convicted differently than others. I personally believe all sin is the same, and that watching/reading about a fictional character being involved in sin is not wrong unless you are sinning (i.e. lusting or committing the sin yourself) because of it.

Also, God also has a very strong negative stance about killing, using His name in vain, lying, idle words, covetousness, greed, drunknenness, and heterosexual romantic relationships/feelings other than marriage (among the entire laundry list I can think of, these are some prominent ones)

How many of you can say you hate a character solely for one of the above/have rejected an entire series because a character has sinned in this way/have never read fanfics that have at the very least implied one of these things?

Look, I'm not trying to turn this into a debate over shounen ai/yaoi, and I'm not trolling or trying to recruit fans for it. I agree that it's bad-my question is why is it worse than anything else?

For me, it isn't an issue necessarily of the content (unless it's shonen-ai/yaoi) but how it's handled. If it's glorified, yeah, chances are I'm gonna ditch the series just on that alone. But if the character feels sorrow for what's been done, tries to change, etc, it's more likely to be ok with me. Of course, this doesn't apply to explicit material of any kind, but I'm sure you knew that...

(in response to an interview question "Do you have a pet peeve having to do with this biz?")
People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Come to think about it its really none of my business, sorry Millyfan! To each his own and all that. I do believe reading about sin and enjoying reading about it because its a sin, for example choosing yaoi >_> is not good, but I know that G-d speaks to us all in different special ways and my opinion on that comes from my very orthodox jewish outlook on life. Everyone sins I know, thats why Jesus came.

So um....im straying from the point  Sorry about that Millyfan, forgive me if I dont visit your blog though, I cant seem to shake the sad feeling I get when I see a nice person like yourself involved in that...

I'm pretty close to you there. I don't really like when anything questionable is handled as if it has no even small consequences or it's *glorified* in the sense of being the ideal or what *should* happen.

However if the handling of a questionable issue or action is as evenhanded as possible (i.e. both "bad" and "good" consequences of said questionable action are brought up in a reasonable and honest way) or negative (i.e. the character entirely regrets what he/she's done, it was used to show just *how* evil/desperate/psycho/misled the character(s) are) then I'm somewhat hard to offend to the point of boycotting or whatnot.

Needless to say, I don't like explicit material either. Themes, implications, that's no real problem to me-but at a certain point any good writer needs to know when they are going from being honest to being sick or mercenary as a writer and attempting to go for cheap garbage/fanservice for the boors.

As for you, Gremio, and anyone else, it's fine if you don't read my blog. We all have different convictions (and maybe I don't have as many as I probably should  ) and if you or anyone else feel that reading my blog is wrong, I don't want you there. I don't want to cause people to sin. -^.^-
