IGN's Top 50 Sci-fi Shows

Postby rocklobster » Thu Jan 10, 2013 4:27 am

Read this
Read this a couple days ago. I disagree with their top choice, but that's only because I never watched Battlestar Galactica (I'm considering it as soon as I finish Firefly). But even if I had, I'd still not put Star Trek at #2. I mean, if it weren't for Star Trek, we wouldn't have Battlestar Galactica or any other sci-fi show. Before Star Trek, sci-fi was considered silly. Star Trek made it seem serious. I'm also kinda surprised they didn't include Star Trek Voyager. I didn't think it was a bad show once it got its groove going.
So, discuss: were the shows good choices?

People still go to IGN? They are always making bad picks in anything and this is not different. How the crap is Lost called a Sci Fi show, oh wait. They have to put that in the list anywhere because it is so great. Deep down, we should have just remove our tv's and networks should never air another show again, I mean lost was so great that it that it is the end all of shows in the world!

This list looks completely arbitrary.

I didn't pay much attention to the bottom 30, figuring them to be in the 'throwaway/honorable mention' category, always plenty of room for debate as to who's in, who's out.

I kept saying, "Where's The Prisoner? Where's The Prisoner?" until I found it in the Top 10.

Their Top 20 is peculiar, although I generally agree that most of the shows mentioned belong there, though not in that order. I absolutely have to disagree with their # 1 pick -- I have watched all of Battlestar Galactica, and while it is enjoyable, it hardly beats out any of the other spots in the Top 20.

Star Trek certainly belongs at #1 as far as SciFi TV shows go -- no other TV show (Sci Fi or not) has had the sort of legs that series had.

I don't disagree with leaving Voyager out of the Top 50. Heck, Quark was a better show.

Star Trek is serious buisness yo.

Babylon 5 and Star Trek The Next Generation probably should have been higher but that might be my nostalgia speaking.

Seriously, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is my favorite Science Fiction series, but meh if BSG or Babylon 5 or something else gets ranked higher than it by someone else.

In keeping with the arbitrary nature of the list:

Hey I didn't say it was a completely serious show.

I could give a list of what shouldn't be on this list.

I do think that BSG should be in the top 10, but it is not a #1 that is for sure!

I haven't seen enough of the next generation to make a critical review of it but I personally would have ranked DS9 above it

I lol'd.

And I don't care if people hate Voyager. It will always retain a special, nostalgic place in my heart, for all its flaws.

I agree. For me the reason that I like Voyager is that it brought that sense of adventure and unknown back that the original show had.
