Anime Dub theme song poll

Postby randomuser2349 » Sun Nov 11, 2012 3:53 pm

Which type of theme song for dubbed animes do you prefer?

Japanese Left Intact: The series is fully dubbed into English, but the original theme songs (opening/endings) present in the Japanese version are left intact. Examples: Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto (later seasons), all series of Gundam (except Zeta), and almost all anime for mature audiences.

Japanese dubbed: The theme song follows the same melody as the Japanese version, but the words are changed to English, and sometimes even the whole meaning.
Examples: Blue Gender, One Piece (Funimation, except OP5/ED5), Case Closed/Detective Conan (OP/ED 1 and 2), Dragon Ball (US dub), Beyblade Metal Fusion, DBZ Kai, Sailor Moon.

Alternative Foreign: The theme song is replaced with an entirely different song.
Examples: Pokemon, Digimon, Speed Grapher, Saint Seiya, Zeta Gundam, any 4kids property, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT (USA), Naruto (OP 1/2).

I like it when it is left intact.

I don't always watch anime, but when I do, I prefer the original music.

The original music tends to be IMO better than any translation it may receive. But I don't hate dubbed theme songs, sometimes they can be done well.

I love the ones that are left intact, especially when some random english words are thrown into the mix.
The only one I've heard dubbed are the two songs from OHSHC.

I think it sounds more authentic when the theme song is left alone. Besides, most distributors actually put subtitles for the theme song, so what's the problem?

Usually I prefer the original music, but when it comes to dubs Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya) comes to mind. The North American theme was pretty catchy, I must admit.

I tend to lend towards the original theme (but it doesn't have to be in Japanese). There are exceptions to this, of course. (I prefer the Cardcaptors theme to the Card Captor Sakura theme. :P)

When it comes down to it, the quality of the actual theme is the deciding factor.

Gotta love that German MTV intro song for Vision of Escaflowne.

Personally, I hate that theme. It doesn't really fit in IMO.
