Man from my church

Postby Sheenar » Mon Mar 07, 2011 7:58 am

I wanted to pass along a prayer request for a man from my home church.

He and his family are very dear to me. Like my adopted family. They took care of me after my surgery and have been a source of laughter and support through the years.

The father of the family has prostate cancer. He has been in treatment for many years and had been doing pretty well.

But now the cancer has spread to his liver. He just got home yesterday from a 13-day stay at the cancer treatment hospital. The drs. didn't expect him to survive the weekend, but he did. But he's not out of the woods yet.

Please pray for him and his family. His daughter is a senior in high school. His son is a friend of mine who is away at college. I think they have one or two older children as well (I'm not sure.)

It hurts so much to see cancer do this to people I love and care about. I've lost people to it before and it still keeps affecting even more.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."

Aw, that's so sad. A friend of my mom's family just died of a brain tumor not to long ago. It was terrible. She left behind two young daughters who live with their father now and he doesn't let them see their mother's side of the family anymore. Cancer is such a terrible disease! I'll certainly be praying for your friend.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Praying. I've also lost family to cancer- a grandmother and two uncles, one of who left a mother and teenage daughter behind. It's hard on everyone.

Update from his wife:

Chemo is hard work! I hate seeing K so weak and sick. He is being so strong and brave. I am so grateful we are at home this time instead of in the hospital.

Please keep praying.

I really, really hate what cancer does to people.

Woah.. Just prayed! God bless you and his family! Remember that death is not the end, but if you have Christ as your Holy Saviour, just the beginning of an eternity with the Lord God!

Here we are again. K has pancreatitis. They are going yo admit him for a few more days. I wonder what our nurses on the ninth floor are going to say when we are transported there in a little bit. Does the hospital give frequent guest upgrades?

Thanks for your prayers. Here is another update from his wife.

I have to admire her sense of humor. I know that what has helped me in my own illnesses or watching family members go through it. Not being like mean about it but yeah.

Still continuing to pray xxx

He's been home from the hospital for a few weeks. They've been doing outpatient chemo treatments. Here is the latest update:

Just started chemo treatment #3. We are hopefully half way through chemo. The best news is that it is working! :o)

New update from his wife:

Recovering from round four of chemo. We sure did dread it this time. Kenny was stronger going in. The side effects are still the same. I don't think we will have boccoli-rice for a looong time when this is all finished. :o)

Another update:

Great dr report. The liver cancer is shrinking. The bone cancer is staying the same. K's PSA has gone from 73 to 12.5 this month. Only two more rounds of chemo to go then a break form the summer. The new drug we were waiting on has been approved by the FDA and we will start it after finishing chemo. Thanks form the prayers! They are working! God is good...All the time!

K was driving from the Springs and had two seizures. He is in the local hospital for now and they are saying his cancer is attacking his nerves. He should be moving to specialty hospital tomorrow morning, please pray for him and his family and his coworkers!!

This is gut-wrenching. I have seen cancer do too many awful things to people I love. :(

That's just terrible. I've seen cancer do terrible things to people. My mother saw it kill her friend's daughter, who had to leave behind three kids. One of them mentally disabled. It's such a horrid disease. :( I'll be praying!

After not hearing any updates for months, I have sad news.

A friend of mine posted that K has gone home. I am kicking myself that I lost touch with him and his family (lost the phone number and no longer found myself in my college town to ask at church).
He was like a father to me and his home was always a refuge --his family, my family. I am heartbroken, but know that I will see him again when I arrive at home. Glad that he is home with Jesus, but still sad that I won't see him again here on earth.

Please be in prayer for his family and friends.

I still haven't been cleared to drive, but the service is on Wed. morning. Nobody is coming from my area that I know of. My college town is about an hour's drive away, depending on traffic.

I don't know what to do...I may break the rules a bit and drive myself on Wed. morning. I don't know what else to do.

^ I think that the last thing he would want you to do is potentially put your life - and others' lives - at risk in order to go to his funeral.

If it comes down to it, just because you aren't there doesn't mean you can't say goodbye. Pull out a picture of him (if you have one), light a candle, and pray.

I wouldn't necessarily be putting mine or other's lives at risk. I've never had a seizure (that I know of) and I've never had a syncope attack while sitting, only when standing for too long. The no-driving advice was a suggestion by my doctors pending testing.
Anytime I have not felt well or felt confident that I could drive safely, I have not driven. If I do not feel that I can safely drive when I wake up on Wed., I will not drive.

It's really important that I be there for his family --because they are my family, too.

I put out word on Facebook that I am in need of a ride. Will see what happens.

Made it to the funeral and back safely. Was a beautiful service. Got to see many people I hadn't seen in a while and who had their lives impacted by K's servant spirit.

He is no longer in pain. He is with Jesus --no better place to be.

Just still hurts that he is no longer here with us. Please continue to pray for K's wife, his son, his daughter, the rest of their family (K's brother, sister, nieces, etc.) as well as his friends and many "adopted" college students (of which I am one of them).
