Computer won't let me delete image...

Postby Song_of_Storms » Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:25 pm

Like the title says, my computer refuses to allow me to delete an image. It's odd, because I've used the site before and downloaded, then deleted the exact same picture before. Every time I try to delete it, it says I can't because the file is open in another program. I would really hate to find out I've just messed up my computer, so I was hoping someone could shed some light on my predicament? Thanks~! >w<

(Oh, yes. I did a prompt not-so-thorough scan with Norton anti-virus, and it didn't say anything about a virus...)

Hmm, have your tried restarting your computer? I'm no techie expert, but when something like that happens, restarting usually cancels out any programs in use. If you have tried that and the image still won't delete, you may have something else wrong. ^_^;

Reboot sounds right to me. If that doesn't work, you may want to try booting into safe mode and trying to delete it then.

Thanks Goldenspines, Mithrandir. I'll try rebooting. I wanted to keep safe-mode as a last resort. I hope it doesn't come to that. X3

Before I reboot the computer, I tried to delete the image one more time. It worked~! Thanks for everything. This thread can be locked now. X3

It you ever have weird probs with messages like that there's a free program called Unlocker that helps fix it when it happens. It'll show you what programs are accessing that file that are preventing you from deleting it and usually is able to break the ties between the file and program so you can do what you like with it.

That is one awesome program! Thanks, SnoringFrog! XD I've always subconsciously wished for a program that would do that, but never thought to look for it and never even considered that one might exist!

BTW, I'm sure that link was quite valid 2 weeks ago, but I got an error page when I tried to visit it just now. I don't read french, but it looks like the poor guy exceeded his bandwidth allocation. >.< So, in the spirit of this thread, I'll provide another link to the little piece of genius.

Again, thanks for finding that!
