Some week, huh?

So, I was on my computer, browsing the web with the TV on, and I just found out that Billy Mays, the TV pitch salesman for just about everything from OxyClean to "Kaboom! Stain Remover" just passed today at 50, rounding out the week of sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths:

Ed McMahon (June 23)
Farah Faucett (June 25th)
Michael Jackson (June 25th - Almost Five Hours later, if memory serves)

Oh boy this is just a bad week. I don't know why, but it seems we were in celebrity death debt and this was the week to collect!

Oh my gosh, I know right!
When I heard about Michael Jackson, I was shocked just because he's such an icon, you would never think of it happening in your lifetime. You just feel like they're gonna be around forever...

BUT BILLY MAYS?! COME ON!
I remember when I was like 7 years old and would wait forever for those annoying Oxyclean and OrangeGlo infomercials to be done, not realizing they weren't just extended commercials but HALF-HOUR PROGRAMS... I didn't like him then, but I loved him recently, just because he was so ridiculous and funny with whatever he was selling at the time.

I can't believe it, he was so awesome...

It certainly has been a (bad) week for cultural icons. You kind of wonder who's next.

I know! At first it was just like "What the heck is up here?" and then Billy Mays died, and I was like D: My friends and I couldn't believe it. ;-; I'm so sad now...

God rest their souls, but 'unexpected,' perhaps, only applies to Mr. Mays and Mr. Jackson. Ed McMahon was elderly and Miss Fawcett quite ill for some time.

Nevertheless may they see the peace of Heaven.

Has anyone else noticed how the deaths have gotten increasingly severe as far as the Cultural Importance of the deceased?

First, Ed McMahon.
Then, Farrah Fawcett.
Third, Michael Jackson.
Finally, the one who hurt the most. Billy Mays.

I mean, who is more culturally significant than Billy Mays? God forbid it should be someone really important like Conan O'Brien or Bruce Campbell. The world would, nay, COULD NOT, not survive it.

It does seem like a strange week, but for me that's just because I was Michael Jackson's self-proclaimed biggest fan ever for several years in the 90's. He had a rough life! What with having been beaten growing up, breaking his nose, then getting badly burned during a Pepsi commercial, then the Vitiligo, and the overwhelming fame! He never even knew what it was like to go to a supermarket and use a shopping cart! He couldn't enjoy going anywhere without a disguise. I think a person that famous misses out on a lot.

I really hope he is at peace now, and singing by the Lord's side.

But you know, all these deaths really aren't that strange. So many people die every day that we never hear about - could never hear about because it's too many to count... I know it sounds silly, but hearing the news about MJ was really hard on me. I felt like, even if only in a distant way, he was someone I knew - like a 3rd cousin twice removed, or a kid in high school that I had classes with, but didn't talk to all that much. My daily life doesn't change, but the news is saddening nonetheless, know what I mean??

Anyway, sorry to be a downer! I'm going to cheer up now, having this image in my head. Haha

I was tuning in to the news just now and learned that former football player, Steve McNair, was shot to death in an apartment in Nashville, Tennessee.

The celebrity deaths continue!

I was just about to mention this...I'm in quite a bit of shock over this...I mean seriously...how many more celebs are going to die this week/month...all this news of death on the news is just getting depressing...

No, it's a sign that celebrities are just as human as anyone else, and they can die just as quickly and without warning as we can. I think it's good to remember that the world doesn't revolve around celebrities any more than it revolves around you or me; in the end, they're just people, and people die. These people just happened to be in the media spotlight.

I mean, that or somebody out there has a Death Note. Gotta weigh all your options, I guess. XD

When I heard Micheal Jackson died of a heart attack, my first thought was "is it Kira?" because I had just been reading death note. But then Billy Mays, and all those other celeberties almost made me wonder.

R.I.P, Billy Mays, I'm sorry I always got you mixed up with Al Borland. (And Al, I'm sorry I got you mixed up with Wilson Wilson when I was little.)

Some of you may not know who this is, but Joseph Conrad, who wrote Heart of Darkness (if you haven't read it, you're going to have to at some point in school) passed away yesterday, August 3.
