Hello, My name is Kintaro. I'm a 15 year old 3D animator living in America. Rather then being an "Otaku" or "Anime addict" which I don't enjoy being labeled, I'm rather more interested in Japanese culture overall, rather then just that one subject. This has made it hard to find a forum of similar interest. When it comes to Anime, I'm weird. I Prefer Manga over Anime, and I like Anime film more then Anime tv, I do enjoy shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Eureka Seven, Last Exile, ect. but, typically, I find it to be way to dramatic, and there are never communities that take it seriously, they just say: "I THINK (insert character here) AND (insert character here) ARE SO KAIWAI TOGETHER~~~~~". No, I am not impressed you know this word in Japanese, nor am I impressed by the fact that anime fandom abuses it. I hope you are a more serious community, and I am looking forward to my stay.

I don't think we have too many fangirls here. The mods keep them in the back closet and use their screams to power the site.

All lulz aside, welcome. Have a happycake. [^_^}o

P.S. Drop by the chat sometime. You'll get to know people better and feel more at home here.

Welcome to the CAA Forums, Kintaro.

You seem to have a bit of skepticism when it comes to the seriousness of this site. With the exception of Goof Off, I'll take this opportunity to assure you that we are quite the serious community. Although in any situation, it's always good to keep this rule of thumb on top of the stack: INTERNET: SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Hope you have fun! :thumb:

"In the total expanse of the human life, there is not a single square inch of which Christ, who alone is sovereign, does not declare, 'That is mine'."
- Abraham Kuyper

"God the great Creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."
- Westminister Confession of Faith (Chapter 5, Section 1)

"The wisdom of God has found a way for the love of God to deliver sinners from the wrath of God all the while upholding the righteousness of God!!"
- John Piper

"Grace is the pleasure of God to magnify the worth of God by giving sinners the right and power to delight in God without obscuring the glory of God!"
-John Piper

"The very One from Whom we need to be saved, is the One Who has saved us."
- R.C. Sproul

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."
- Martin Luther

"I have to tell you first that I am ready to die. I have put my affairs in order. Your supreme weapon is killing. My supreme weapon is dying, because when you kill me, people all over Romania will read my books and believe on the God that I preach - even more than they do now."
- Dr. Joseph Ton, the exiled Romanian pastor (quoted by James Montgomery Boice)

"The best prayer I ever prayed had enough sin in it to condemn the whole world."
- John Bunyan

"If the Christian has lost sight of Calvary, that shows that he has lost his way."

I think you'll agree that most of the people here try to be serious. Even those who make remarks about certain couples are serious. ;) But serious discussions have definitely been held here, anyone can see that by reading the forum threads.

Oh, by the way, welcome to CAA! :eyeroll: I hope you have a great experience here.

*steals Mithy's greeting* "Welcome to the Nuthouse!!"

yey for FMA making your heavily guarded list~ and for sharing my views of manga>anime and movies>shows and seeking intellect in an interest of much silliness.

hah, if you want serious I point you to Death Note and the ensuing "discussions" that gushed out in the anime world after. Both serious issues about morality and murder, and WTF kind of topics. lol. great psychology manga.
(manga mind you. the anime just made it so DRAMATIC that I never made it past episode 3ish. -writing words- should never have its own musical theme composed of a full symphonic orchestra w/ a multi-part choir to go with it. that's just epicfunny.)
not to mention the pathetic-but-amusing news items that came of kids bringing in "Death Notes" to school and getting suspended/expelled/etc...

ahh 15, when I thought I could know everything and be all-wise and serious, and then "the older I got, the more foolish I became [found myself to be]". Should you ever need your moment of shallow thought release, the Goof Off section is always open to you.
However, kudos to you for not being Wapanese. I went through that once. May I never do that again. (Chinglish is just hilarious though.)

Lol, yeah, death note manga is far superior to the anime, especially the dub, I couldn't stop laughing at the "I'LL TAKE A POTATO CHIP... AND EAT IT!!!!" scene in the English. It was really pathetic lol. Also, I'm not overtly serious, not like SERIOUS CAT, but I've been on to many anime forums where there is nothing but pure insanity. I have a question though, when you post a new topic in the anime or original art sections, it tells you a moderator has to approve the topic first? What's that all about?

That question can actually be answered most easily in our FAQ, but since I'm here, the reason new posts often get moderated like that is to cut down on the number of spambots and trolls that might come to the board. XD If lists, links, and some key words are posted within the first (25 I think) posts, they generally get moderated, but we try to get them approved as quickly as possible. XD

Anyways, you sound like a pretty cool new member! Though I can't speak for the whole forum, I can say that my experience here has been an excellent one, and I've found this forum to be one of the best for discussions, etc. Not to say we're void of all silliness, but the atmosphere here is generally not the same as I've seen on other boards. XD

Also, if you're interested in finding a more "serious" series of manga, I definitely recommend that you check out some of Naoki Urasawa's works down the road. I can't really recommend them in good conscience to a 15 year old I don't know (i.e., I don't know what kind of content you can/can't handle in a series yet), but if you'd like to check out our review for Monster, I think you might appreciate the story either now or a few years from now.

Anyways, welcome to the boards, and hope you enjoy yourself here! See you around!

Irasshaimase!

An animation DIYer! I've played around, but never made anything I would want anyone else seeing (and unfortunately I no longer have time to try, due to certain other issues) but...

I love witnessing the labors of those more dedicated than I! Do you have anything on the web for public consumption?

Serious manga? Check out "Mushishi", "Ghost Hunt", and if you can read any Nihongo or can find scanlations, "20th Century Boys" I also have a strong preference for "xxxHolic".

You can discuss your preferences in more detail in the Manga Recommendations Thread, and get lots of advice there.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Feel free to visit My Writing.com Portfolio

Largo: "Well Ed, good to see ya. Guess I gotta beat the crap out of you now."

Jamie Hyneman: "It's just another lovely day at the bomb range. Birds are singing, rabbits are hopping about, and soon there's going to be a big explosion."

I do not actually have any 3D films Online worth viewing, most of them are just random 3D tests of materials, rigs, ect. and not actually "film". this is the only thing I have that is "film" and It's not really a good example of my work, imo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoZMMQLGqLo my true skill lies within creating the art the animators manipulate in 3D. so although I am generically referred to as a "3D animator" in the business world, In fact, if you want to be specific, I am a "3D environment and object modeler"

If you want to see some of my 3D artwork, it can be found on the forum at:
