Great movie, but it just had a crummy ending.
Plus the main character, his family, and the dog had to die. It was pretty sad for that part.
Awesome movie, sad ending. Will Smith plays some of the most interesting characters. And his expressions are very powerful, especially the moment with Sam in the lab. Teared up on that during that scene.

Spoiler about the end of the book and movie:
At the end of the book, Neville realizes that his killing people while they sleep makes him very similar to mythical vampires that killed people while they slept. He finally realizes he is now a legend, similar to the vampires. At the end of the movie, Col. Neville never considers himself a legend. The people who he saved at the end of the movie consider him a legend, but the title of the movie isn't "He Is Legend," it's "I Am Legend," and since Col. Neville never referred to himself as such (unlike Neville in the book), it makes the title make less sense.
Oh i deffently see what you mean, the ending of the book is way better.

I hear you.

I think the ending in the book is more interesting, but I kinda like the happier ending in the movie. It is pretty grim otherwise and it was nice to have a ray of hope at the conclusion.

I'm just about having an anxiety attack from the intensity, but I think I like this adrenaline rush. This movie was so freakin' awesome.

Most of the movie was pretty darn good, though they never really seemed to decide just how intelligent the infected humans were supposed to be (the main antagonist seemed pretty darn smart, but they never made anything of it). The creepy, intense atmosphere was very well done... up until the last 15 minutes.

Seriously, I HATE that ending. The tacked on happy part makes no sense in the context of the rest of the film, would have been corny and cliched in any movie, and even managed to make the title sound really stupid.

In the end, I'll take Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price. Not a better movie, but MUCH less frusterating when it's over.

The ending was kind of lame. Did anyone else see the Batman Superman combined symbles in Time Square? I think it was a easter eeg
about a batman and superman movie in 2009. The story's timeline was in 2009.

That's what puzzled me too. The first impression is that the nightseekers are pretty dumb, that they operate on simple instincts. But then...
The alpha nightseeker puts together a pretty complicated trap to string up Neville. Also the gang seems to specifically target lights during the SUV battle and the assault on the house. Yet at the end the alpha seems pretty stupid at getting into the glassed-in room with Neville and the healed woman. I got the impression that he was trying to rescue her (perhaps she was his significant other?) If so, you think he would be a little more careful in his rescue.
Overall, very good movie. My only complaint was the ending and how it was different from the book's ending.

I thought Will Smith's performance was absolutely stellar.
The scene where he had to take down his own dog was brutal to watch. There he was killing his one and only form of social companionship. I was feeling really bad for Neville when he was talking to the mannequin, begging for a response. Both of those times, his acting was absolutely top-notch.

I also liked how the Vampires/Dark Stalkers were pretty smart. At first I thought that Neville fell for his own trap, but I then realized that it was the Alpha Vampire that set it up. Since Neville setup a trap to capture one of them alive using blood as bait, the Alpha Dark Stalker did the exact same thing by moving Fred the Mannequin and using it as bait.
So yeah, really good movie!

I really enjoyed this movie.
I love that the dog had to be killed and didn't get better once infected, and I liked that Neville also had to die, although the ending did kind of ruin the nice non-clichéness of it.
I was... actually very surprised by the movie's message at the end. very surprised. Also, it's another film that proves that the ending doesn't have to be happy for it to be good. Man, I was crying.

I really liked this movie, much more than any of the people who saw it with me. Okay, so it's not as good as I, Robot or The Pursuit of Happyness, but I'd say it was still a pretty good movie. Just contemplative enough to make you think, but not so contemplative that it put me to sleep (I thought Crime and Punishment was exciting, though, so take that with a grain of salt). I really liked how Will Smith's character was the only one there for the majority of the movie (barring all dogs and maniacal zombies). And it was somewhat frightening, but didn't seem like a horror movie. Except for the obvious CG and mandatory Will Smith action scenes, it was a lot like a Shyamalan movie, I think.

The only thing I didn't really like was how unrealistic the CG was. I have a big problem with that kind of thing (got spoiled after my first real encounter with realistic CG - LotR's Gollum). And it would've been even creepier if they hadn't shown the enemies till basically the very end (like in Signs, where you only get the most fleeting glimpses through most of the movie). It's a universal fact that people are afraid of the unknown, so when you can't see what's threatening you though you know it's there, it's much more frightening than any old zombie yelling at you. I actually thought the zombies' intelligence level made some sense. I sort of got the impression (though no one in the movie confirmed this, so I might be wrong) that they were slowly losing human intelligence and becoming more bestial, but they got occasional spurts of near-human intelligence, such as when the leading antagonist made that trap for Neville.

I also wish they had made the title more clear (like in the book, from what I hear?), and that they had been clearer about the whole Signs-esque Everything Has A Purpose message at the end. My (older) brother didn't catch it, and I barely caught it as it was. Really, if they hadn't had Marley's voice saying, "Look, Daddy! A butterfly!" I probably wouldn't have realized what it meant until I bought it on DVD and watched it a couple more times.

But overall, I really liked this movie. I teared up in a couple places, due to Will Smith's supremely stellar acting (he never fails to astonish me and put dozens of other actors to shame), and didn't mind the ending at all.

Oh, and who else thought that Emma Thompson was the perfect person to play the scientist interviewed at the beginning?

Yeah, I completely agree. I actually found the enemies to be kind of amusing rather than frightening... after I saw what they looked like. XD]...he had to kill his one and only friend, Sam. And afterwards started trying to talk to the mannequins in that store. Normally I'd laugh if I saw someone do that in a movie, but Will Smith pulled it off and made the entire scene serious. .__. I agree. You've voiced my opinion on that exactly. Not just anybody could do something like that, eh?

I think what they were trying to show was that the mutants were more human than Neville was giving them credit and that he was the one who was in fact losing his humanity, you know? Besides which if the human body were running at the temperatures that these guys were operating at they would totally lose intelligence because of the damage to the brain.

I personally thought the kinda religious element seemed a bit rushed and thrown in. But that's just me. Everything else was epic. I tried not to think of how the zombies (nightstalkers) thought. If I had, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the movie as much.

As for the "healed" girl being the Alpha's "special someone," I doubt it. Mainly because that wasn't how he found out where Lt. was in the first place, and besides that, if that was his main priority, he would have went straight for the lab, and wouldn't have bother going after Lt.

Good points. I guess logically Alpha could have followed Neville home after the trap and dogs incident instead, if he were really intent on recovering her.

It wasn't how he found Neville's lab, but...
He was clearly waiting for an opportunity to find him and was at the head of all of the attacks against Neville. It was the alpha that laid the trap, the alpha that led the charge, and the alpha that smashed against the glass. He definitely had a grudge.
It's more likely that it was just because he was the only one with any brains or leadership "skills," and knew that Lt. was the only food they had left.

He couldn't have followed him home after the dog attacks because it was still light out. He was able to follow after he was "rescued" because it was dark out.

They definitely seemed to be leaning in the direction that Neville was underestimating their intelligence, though...
