Where do you shop for anime?

Postby ilikegir33 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:41 pm

Well, where do you shop for anime DVD's and items?

I usually shop at the local comic store or at Best Buy.

I usually go through RightStuf.com ADV also has sales on their sites for anime alot. Rarely do I get anime or manga from a brick-and-motar store.

Best Buy, Bestbuy.com and Amazon.com are the main places I've shopped in the past. I've picked up one or two things from MovieStop and RightStuf.com too, though.

Rightstuf.com. Exclusively.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

When we had Suncoasts around us...I'd go there (ALL THREE OF THEM WENT OUTTA BUSINESS!)

So, I haven't bought any anime in a while, though I've been eyeing the selection at Walden Books for some time...maybe I'll buy someday...

Id say Best Buy (Not that they ever really have a good selection in their store but there web site does though.) I may go to FYE for anime but not often. And also Barnes and Noble for my manga needs.

90% online at Suncoast.com. But if I'm lucky to find something, Best Buy.

For Manga, I've gone to my local Barnes & Noble so far for my needs.

Typically the "local" (it's almost an hour drive there!) Hastings. They're the only people nearby with a halfway decent selection. And it's about the same for Manga, except I go to Borders for most of that.

They didn't replace the Suncoast with FYE. They bought the company up and converted them over to their stores in our area.
The one mall I go to has both Suncoast and FYE together. Before that the FYE was Sam Goody which was part of Suncoast.

Amazon for anime, and Borders for manga (even though the nearby Books-A-Million has a bigger selection)

Yeah. The same problem happened to me at the Suncoasts. There are no Suncoasts OR Sam Goody's in my area, and the nearest one is two hours away.

And with my recently lost membership to B&N, I think I'll gladly choose that place from now on for shopping for my manga.

Yeah, thats called the Otaku blues. At manga at $10 a pop and anime $20 dollars your money gets eaten up quite fast. And also not to mention the anime magazines. Lukely I have a part-time job to where I can get the money somewhat more easily than others can.

Yea, best buy is usually the place I go to as well, but I haven't shopped for anime in a loooooong time. Though when I was going through scrapped princess, I was ordering from amazon, and when me and my brother were going through FMA, We ordered from amazon to.

Theres a store here called anime mountain but, he charges so freakin much I'd rather order it online and wait. I think $36 for one disc of the Star ocean anime.

The only thing is, one mall already had an FYE. The other two didn't and don't now. They just closed up shop and left the building, they reworked the wall around the once-entrances of the Suncoasts to look like a normal wall, and that was the end of it. One mall's Suncoast became a clothes store, though, iirc. Either way, there goes my cheap pocky ):

I started with Animenation but then last summer or so I started to have problems with getting on to their check out so I switched to Rightstuf because they have a print catalog.

For shopping when I am in Spokane I usually go to the Barnes & Nobles
in Northtown Mall for manga and Borders on the Newport Highway for
DVDs.

I also found that they have a Suncoast near the upstairs food court in
Northtown. :thumb:

Right you are. I usually buy at Best Buy but it's still 20 dollars a DVD. ARGH!

Actually online anime stores like Rightstuf,Animenation and Robert's Anime Corner Store generally have either a pre-owned section where you can buy anime that people have traded in(the stores clean them up before re-selling)
or else a section for anime that they are selling off for a cheap price.
If you look in any of these sections you can get a really good deal. :thumb:

Actually, the only place I've bought any animé is at Big Lots. They're selection is horrible, but every once in a while they get something I'll buy. I don't get alot of money, and with the dvds at Big Lots only beign $3, it's alot easier for me to afford it. I recently bought volume 1 of IGPX there and just today I bought a couple volumes of Case Closed.

Also I go to Wal-Mart. Yeah I know they've got terrible selection but I found the first volume of Cyborg 009 the new one, and (infamously) a selection of very cr*ppy Korean anime ripoffs that have generic titles. I find them hilarious.

Online, of course! I try to find it as cheap as I can, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to buy any anime anytime soon... *sniff* I also will occasionally buy some anime in the bookstore like boarders, or in Fye. But then its expensive! Dang, I'm in college, I can't afford that anymore!
