I LOVE Petshop of Horrors! I have the anime, and I have the first four volumes of the manga.
Yes, it is horror. It's not horror in the traditional sense, though. The storylines tend to deal with some kind of lesson of human existance - everyone (who survives) an encounter with Count D and his strange pets learns some kind of lesson about life.
There's blood, particularly in a few of the storylines.
Also... yaoi.. I wouldn't say full-on yaoi, but there is a definite shounen-ai element. There is a tension between Officer Leon Orcott and Count D that's rather difficult to put into words. They have a mutal facination with one another, but Leon is definitely straight. Count D, however... we don't really know. (Then again, we don't even really know if he is human).
I do give you a HEAVY warning for Volume 3. There is a storyline in there, "Dessert" which involves Count D having a relationship with a man, that leads to... interesting stuff going on in Count D's shop. I'm not sure if it's true yaoi/shounen-ai, though, as the man kind of turns out not to be human, and D wanted him as an addition to his shop... still... um... if you are easily offended, don't read it. Not only is that particular story especially creepy (it involves cannibalism), it also is the closest PSoH gets to full-on yaoi... and it's pretty close.
Just some warnings. The manga is something that I personally like (mythical animals and a creepy feel), but it's not something I think the Admins at CAA would ever officially recommend.
