This is a difficult situation for any mother to be in, Christian or otherwise. Even outside the realm of religion, mothers develop an instinctive attachment to developing babies. To have something like this happen during development is often not only fatal for the child, but it's devastating for the mother.
The important thing here is to let the mother know that her doctors are well-trained to understand all the options; if she doesn't fully understand all of the potential effects or risks of any option, she has the right to ask more about it. She probably knows instinctively, but should be informed, that all of them pose risk to her as well.
Sometimes developing babies are meant to die. If they are not meant to, they will live, despite hardships in development. If they are meant to, it's important for the family to understand that we do not always understand why things are a certain way, and in an emotionally-charged situation like this, we may never understand. There is a bigger scheme at work, and each individual is just a small part of it.
My prayers go out to the baby and mother, as well as the family, that everything works out as it should and that all can heal from this pain, regardless of the outcome.
