Job - Woot! Promotion - WOO HOO!

Postby madphilb » Fri Feb 13, 2004 4:20 pm

I'm not sure if this is the best place... didn't really want to put it in prayer requests, and I don't know if it would fit in the testimonies, but if it does, mods... feel free to move it.

I used to deliver chips (did so since Feb 2003 till Nov 2003), the company I worked for was bought out and I lost my job in the process (could have paid them to work it, but decided it wasn't worth the headaches).

I had been looking and finally remembered that HSN (Formerly Home Shopping Network, look on cable/satelite or goto http://www.hsn.com) operated locally and was hiring, in fact I was reminded by a radio ad looking for people to come work there.

I did the on-line application, got a pre-interview thingie, met with the recruiter and got hired (based on the ability to pass a drug test and background check, both of which I could do in my sleep).

They hired me as Sales, answering the phone and helping customers when they call in to buy things.... they said that since I didn't have call center experience that would be the best place.....

And I was beside myself with happyness for now I had a job (assuming I could last through training and didn't mess up too bad)....

Last Friday was orientation, we got an overview of the company, benifits, got our ID badges, singed our "offer letters" and geared up for a couples weeks of training.

Monday I started training for sales, learning the ins and outs of the computer system for taking orders, finding info on products, learning how their system works, even got to listen in on some live calls with real sales people to get a feel for the job.

Then today we where learning a bit of customer service stuff, canceling orders, checking on order statuses, changing payment options on existing orders, etc.... and one of the helpers in the class (who is also a trainer for the customer service people) made a comment about how I should be in customer service instead of sales.....

I asked later in the morning if she was serious, she told me yes and that if I was interested she would be calling HR to see if they could transfer me over, and that I should call too and let them know I'd like to do it.

By the end of the day I had picked a new schedule, been told that my pay would increase, and I would have my new offer letter by Tuesday (HR is closed Monday I guess)....

So I was given a promotion before I finished with training for sales (service people spend their first week with sales and share training, then it splits up).

So, not only am I very happy that I'm going to be making a steady paycheck with a good company (and get to sit my butt down in air conditioning this summer instead of running around like a fool and driving a rolling oven around in the Florida summer heat), but I'm moving on up as well!

Now, I just wait for 6 months and I can see about transferring to the dot-com division of support (more money, neater job).... but either way, I'm happier than a piggy in slop!

Thank you God!
PHIL

Congratulations! :thumb:

I hope the new job works out for you. I've got an interview on March 6, so hopefully that will also go well.

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.
