Seraphim Radio: My little Gothic and Industrial internet radio station

I know alot of you guys really aren't familiar with these genres, but I'd like you to post any songs that leap out at you and make you say "I really like that song!", perhaps alongside a bit of an explanation of what you like about it. I will keep these in mind as I think about what I want to pick up and add.

Woah, I just looked at my usage statistics. I get almost 3 times the listeners from Germany as the U.S., making it the top country of origin. I understand Gothic and Industrial music is more popular in Germany, but I certainly wasn't expecting that.

By the way, I have placed an order for Sacrificial Etchings by The Awakening.

Alright, I've added both Dead Artist Syndrome albums, and I have to say they make some pretty sweet Christian flavored Old-school Gothic rock.

Well, statistically, I turn out to be my own greatest fan and listener to my own station as top one-man bandwidth user and city of origin, so I can sympatize. Right now I'm up to 25.6 or 26.6 hours of programming, so there's still a lot more to hear. Any sort of music I should pick up more of? I had in the past in fact considered writing up a consistently softer and more ethereal playlist so I could go to sleep with my own station playing, but with all those listeners in Germany and Switzerland, I've decided I'd rather keep the whole spectrum running all day and just tune into something else at night. Both countries being what they are, its kind of weird being a sort of missionary to Germany and Switzerland while never setting foot there.

Alright, I just added Sacrificial Etchings by The Awakening, and I have to say that these guys produce some seriously awesome Gothic rock. Its a pity these guys aren't so well known outside of South Africa, they produce some seriously masterful stuff.

Ever since that thread where I posted incredibly enthusiastically about divine possession of the radio station, I have seen the phenomenon time and time again interrelating to who in particular appears on the station or what I am doing at a particular time.

P.S. I got Civilization and the Maniacal EP by Front Line Assembly today. Whatever crap jaded rivetheads said about Civilization being a horrible album is completely untrue, it is a truly wonderful piece of art corresponding to old aphorisms about the iron fist in the lace gloves.

Just curious, how many peeps does your station get on average? (or can you not tell that?)

I haven't been listenign much lately... I really don't like listenign to music while I surf cause i find it distracting. I like to beable to focus on the music... or what I'm reading. Not both

It really depends on factors like what day and what time. Because most of my listeners are Europeans of Germany or Switzerland, my peak hours are 10-12 A.M. when I get from 5-8 people. I get the most listeners on Sundays, Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The least number I have is 2 listeners .Also, you need more practice, amateur. ^_^

Alright, I added The Holiness of Now by ThouShaltNot. As usual, I will say that ThouShaltNot really rocks, bubbles with creativity and depth of thought, and if more Christian musicians were like this people would respect our music more.

Visited. Here's my thoughts:

1. "Love. Lust. Decadence." Such greets me at my entrance into the myspace. Here, as in her music and page in general, I am reminded of elements I hate about parts of gothic culture, breaking down to this formula:

A. Take one part ethical hedonism (pleasure is the highest good) removing it of all its best defender's philosophical foundations for good moral conduct. With that out of the way, pursue open decadence, that is to say a morally and spiritually disintegrated lifestyle.
B. Take the unusual leap of actually admitting the nihilism inherent in hedonism, bewail the pain and nihilism, and then affirm hedonism again. Bewail the negative consequences of decadence while affirming decadence. In all ways live as a dog struggling with all its might against the leash of its master and inflicting agony upon itself.
C. People starving, suffering, enduring social injustice, and getting mass slaughtered all the world over? Say that such things disprove the existence of God and then let them eat cake, because that money is best used on capes, cloves, and condoms because only my own pleasure and sufferings matter for anything anyway. Fail to consider my own contributions to their sufferings and the possibility that if God exists regardless he really isn't happy about any of this.

2. She needs more well-tempered (to use classical terms) work on synthesizers, vocoders, drum machines, and guitars. She has talent, but needs to develop it more.
3. The lyrics are cliche for this genre.

End result: I have kept it a guiding purpose of my music that I would do my best to keep things life affirming and socially responsible and productive, alongside offering the hope of the Gospel of Yeshua the Man of Sorrows punctuating it all. Conversely, I have employed Gothic and Industrial music for the realization of the incredible depravity of man causing many of his sufferings. Even if I compromised this attitude, I've heard better sequencing from several Electro-goth artists.

Hmm, these days I've been considering dropping my dystopian flavored music in favor of Classical and Neo-classical music which meshes with my themes and tunes. What do you think? Should I do it?

Yes. I was looking at my statistics though, and its rather strange, some of my top songs come from Blade Runner. Hmm, I dunno. I could just include both I guess.

Yeah, pretty appropriate when you realize they are a South African Gothic band (as my mother comments the song was originally about lack of resistence to racism, though more universally applicable to social injustice). They're definitely Christian too.

Alright, I've picked up 2 new albums by Delerium. The first is Archives Volume 1, which is a definite dark ambient work with the kind of post-industrial flair we would expect from a Front Line Assembly side project. The second is Karma, a magnificent album which contains a kind of intelligent and exotic pop music many many times better than the stuff they play on the radio while holding something of a Goth palpable dark romantic flair.

Alright, to post my moaning and whining on public forum, it seems I have a lot of competition this month as Gothic stations are showing up left and right. Nothing's very consistent in running this station, that's for sure. On Saturday, I ended up having up to 15 listeners, yet today, this Monday, which is the peak time for Gothic stations only two listeners. On the upshot, I've got some really cool stuff coming in in the form of Industrial Hip-hop group Stromkern, electro-goth group Wyrmwood the Legacy, and coolest of all, more Saviour Machine.

Alright, today I decided to return closer to true form and went on a deletion spree from the streams, removing stuff like Juno Reactor and Vangelis. I could not, however, endure the thought of not having The Future Sound of London, so I've kept them in. I have also added several new albums however.

Edit: Oh yeah, my station flows nicely again and my listeners shot up quickly.

Alright, I would now like to recommend those who haven't listened in on the streams in a while to give it another shot, as they certainly have a much nicer flow now. Also, I picked up the album Commandments For the Molecular Age by Mentallo & the Fixer, which is one crazy chaotic yet well sequenced satire of the decadences of modern living. Its almost like a fusion of industrial, ambient, and power noise, playing its chaotic sequencing and samples in a strangely elegant tension almost like classical music.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I've placed an order for the Industrial album The Greater Wrong of the Right by Skinny Puppy. No, you need not throw a hissy fit over this album unless you're a hardcore Neo-conservative (rather than, say, old-school conservatives who tend torwards isolationism anyways), in which case you probably would never like Industrial music anyway. Also, I've learned of a shop with a sizable Gothic and Industrial section near where I go to have a day of relaxation every week. Never know what I might walk out with if I decide to check it out.

I finally got around to trying your radio station. Sorry, it took so long! This is exactly the kind of music station I've been looking for.
So far I have listened to two songs, and my reaction has been a total cerebral melt down. I think my mind just exploded. Not good homework music! I will listen some more when I am not in the middle of writing a paper.

When I did homework, back when I was in school, I'd always listen to music because it helps me concentrate, even if it's some crazy technical death metal.
