9/11 Remembered

Postby dyzzispell » Sun Sep 10, 2006 7:49 pm

Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone would like to share their thoughts on where we are 5 years after 9/11. Where were you when it happened? Was anyone here directly affected by it, or did you know someone who was?

Anyway, I was at work that day, actually stayed the whole work day while most other people went home. We had no TVs there, only radio, so I didn't see anything till I got home(other than the smoke). I lived about 15 miles from the city, and worked about 30 miles away. Even from my job we could see the smoke. It was so crazy that day, I'll never forget what it was like.

In the town I lived in, there was a reservation that overlooked the whole city. From what I understand, it was jammed that day, and a lot of people actually saw the whole thing. My boss was one of those there, and he saw one of the towers fall.

Anyway, the accountant for my job lost her boyfriend in the towers. I didn't know anyone directly myself. I wonder, are we any better off now? Are we any safer?

Is it possible that maybe, after years and years of trying to kick God out of our country, He finally gave us a glimpse of what that meant? It is unfortunate so many had to pay with their lives...

Anyway, my regards and prayers go out to all who have been affected in one way or another. I hope you all have been able to continue your lives to some degree, to be strong and to make a difference in this dark, dark world. May you all be testaments to the strength God gives to get through the valley of the shadow of death.
In Christ,
Dyzzi

Where was I when the world stopped turning? Well, I was in my Abnormal Psych class. Our professor told us about what had happened and then announced that the normal plan for that day was still going to occur at school, since routines are the best remedy during a crisis. But at the Student Union, it was dead silence as everyone was glued to the TV sets and watching what had happened. (BTW, let's keep this thread as non-political as possible, OK?)

I was in Algebra class and had just handed in my test when a girl ran in shotuing, "TURN ON THE TV!!!"

We watched in horror the rest of the class period and it took me forever to grasp what really happened.

A bomb threat was called on the school not long after. Most of the staff were in shock- all we did was watch tv....except for Physical Science. Our teacher, stubborn as ever, still made us do a lab though her little overhead tv was still turned on.

My mom was in rehab in Hollywood, FL when it happened. My sisters came home totally sheltered from the news, of which I had to tell them.
While no one we knew was in the twoers, my mom's uncle was in the Pentagon. Thankfully he survived.

I was in 3rd period English class when one of the office staff came in and told us to pray for the people in the first tower, since a plane had "accidentally" run into it. She came back in later, saying that the second tower had been hit, and the Pentagon was also on fire. Then she came in a third time, saying that the towers had collapsed. I remember being pretty freaked out that day (so was everyone), but I also realized that the day would go down in US history for the rest of our lives. Pretty big, when you think about it.

Yeah, I had no intention of making this thread political. It was just supposed to be a place to share your stories. :)
All I know is, I learned real quick to dread the "Breaking News" sound on the radio station. It was happening way too often.
I'm glad your uncle survived the attack. :P My brother had been working in one of the towers until about a month before the attack, when he quit his job there. He was only working on I think the 18th floor so he probably still would've gotten out. We did know a friend in Manhattan, though not working in the towers. He got out safely too.

I remember that day was Picture day. I had just gone to the office to get my mom to bring up a check that I had forgotten.

I remember returning to my 8th grade state history class...and looking up at the tv that was never on but was this time. It was around 8:20 my time so I guess 9:20 over there?

anyways I thought that a rocket was launching at first but as I sat down it became clear... the first tower was on fire..

as I watched... the second tower was hit live (I think)

We watched in silence throughout the whole hour.

Finaly, 2nd hour came alone and I moved all the way next door.

Instead of doing math, we sat and watched. By 9:30 our time the first tower began to fall.
My math teacher was like "class... I want you all to pray for these people..."

It was a day I will never forget...I hope no one else will either.

I first heard about it when they came over the speakers at my school and said that both towers had been hit. I was in the middle of a dance class (I went to an arts school.) We were all pretty freaked out. In my next class we had to actually work, but in my last class we just all stared at the tv. We ended up getting sent home early. At home pretty much all we did for the rest of the day was watch the tv. I didn't know anyone who was directly affected by the attacks, but the next day my aunt commited suicide, so it's still really personal for me.
