Manga-type tones on Photoshop?

Postby Pepper Kittie » Tue Feb 10, 2004 7:16 pm

I apologize if I've posted this in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if it should be under Manga or Art :sweat: Anyways, I've wanted to make a Christian manga for a very long time, and I've had an idea for it for quite a while. (long before I knew any existed out there... I'm really glad I found this place ^^) Affording tones is expensive though, and even from doing a short manga with it in the past it's cost me a lot of money... I've seen mangas that people made tones online with art programs, but I've never been able to figure out how. Does anyone know how to explain the basics to me? I have Photoshop 6.0 and somewhat know how to use it XD Any help or directions would rock my world and I will love you forever!

By the way, coming here and finding great mangas like Psychoteers and Steelblood has really been a blessing and an inspiration! You guys are amazing! Lol, just wanted to say that. I'm done complimenting now *wanders off*

Hi there!

I can't really give much advice on how to make your own screentone since I rarely make my own. What I do is salvage free tones on the Internet and ripping some off available scanlations..Speaking of tones, Inky generously shared hers here.

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5329&page=1&pp=10

I'm sure you'll find this thread useful. Good luck with your manga!! And Welcome to the group!

being rather lazy, i do the same as Mave and turn my salvaged tones into .pats so i could use them with the pattern tool. i've collected quite a number of tones myself from the generous souls in the net who scanned their tones for that purpose, bless them. i could send my folders your way if you need more.

erm, what's the file size limit for the attachment again? because my Shinobu screentone folder is made up of 106 screentones scanned in 360 dpi, so the total size of that one folder is 25 megs. //sweatdrop//

don't worry, the other folders are much, much smaller. XD XD

Eeee, that won't work...much too large..-_-;;;

Do you have a server where you can upload it like I did? If not, I may be able to help you out with that...(I could give you some FTP space on my server if you can use FTP).

The question has probaly been answered already but here is a tutorial I found on the net on how to make your own tones in photoshop. But if you are looking too make printed manga do not make your tones this way. Get some real tones.

[color=Blue]Yea they used too be called omochabox but there anime gamers now named after the ones in japan. I've been too the retail store before too and it's like heaven!! But the odd thing is is that they have tons of stuff just in japanese.

Thanks for the link! I think I'll stick with the pre-made tones... making them looks a bit too complicated for me *sweatdrops* *laughs* It's wonderful to have so many tones to chose from though. Thank you so much Benu! *hugs*
