Dual Shock

It's to my understanding that the Dual Shock PS2 controllers are suposed to shake. Why don't mine, even when I have the settings set for it to happen?

Mine does that too..or doesn't do that too XD. Yea its odd but i think the rumblers in mine are dead

some games may have it disabled by default, or just not support it.

I think that a firmware update (or whatever, I don't really know that much about it) on the PS2 deactivated it... It started when I got the new Ninja Turtles game... The rumble hadn't worked on any controller since then, including brand new DS2 controllers...

It's the system itself, not the controllers

Again, only speculation, but I think it was due to the lawsuits because they supposedly broke patents... the whole thing was a farce when you look at the dates on those patents! The second patent they got sued over was made AFTER the first dual shock...

I have a used PS2. Maybe I should look at the info on it. One DS2 was bought brand new. The other came with my PS2, but it's also a DS2- must be the system. But dang! You pay for something and it doesn't work? Feh.

Hmm... I had a problem with a logic board going out that disabled that aspect of the system, but I don't know about any firmware upgrades removing it. Hmm... That's news to me.

Has it ever worked? If not, it's possible you got a bad deal on a used PS2. That kinda thing can happen when the system is disasembled for moding by an inexperienced person. (Or while the power is on >.< )

That's true. The first one I got quit and they simply replaced it... I hate buying used.

I don't know what to say about that, except that perhaps the newness has to do with it. I have a new playstation(the slim one) and it works fine. The only thing is, my controllers are as old as the original PS2.

I wish I had that problem - i hate vibrating controllers. One thing I can suggest is to make sure the little red light is on at the bottom center of your controller. If it isn't, press the button below (or above - can't remember which) and the light should come on.

The analog/digital switch doesn't do anything to the vibration... Your controller can vibrate without analog being on.

If you hate vibrating controlers, I have yet to play a game where you can't turn vibration off... Why do you hate it, though? I'm actually very sad that the PS3 will not have vibration in it...

I must remind everyone to read my sig... But, still, I'm nearly certain the controler can vibrate without analog being on... You turn vibration off in the game settings... In every game I can think of, anyhow...

it cant eb firm ware since i bought mine last month and it rumbles.. er shocks?^^

And I do turn it off in every game I play. Why don't I like it? Why do you? Just preference, I guess.

Well I can't think of any PS2 games off the of my head where the rumble is actually useful and not just an immersion thing. But in Rockstar Tabble Tennis on the 360 depending on how much the controller rumbles is how close you are to hitting the ball off the table. So there it's actually very very useful. Game designers should do things like that more often than just using rumble for huge explosions and jumping off of cliffs.

I bought my ps2 (used) about a year and a half ago. My ps2 went through a lot. From opening up the disc drive, to adding a flip top. And my controller still rumbles.

Methinks its a problem with the controller, not the system.
