College? o.O

The Q is outta here and heading for college...and I'm very scared about it. I need prayers for my sanity...and I'm not using that word lightly, I really am worried about going crazy...

I went crazy. And I use that more seriously than you. Worrying about it doesn't help. But prayer does, and you've got that from me. There are people in the Bible who had there minds/inteligence improved by God. Stay with Him, ask for His help and you'll do fine.

meh, it's not so bad. Just don't schedule your classes too close/far apart from eachother... 30 minutes lets you have enough time to get across campus and get a nice seet. 10 minutes can be really rushy, and anything over an hour is inconvenient.

Those are the only hard things in college in general. It's just like going from 12th grade to 13th. you got your HS (or CP) education for a reason; college doesn't exist to frustrate your brain on the first week. :)

Sane? You might get to keep your sanity if you go into something like history or english, but you are bound to loose it if you go into the hard sciences and engineering, it's a graduation requirement. :P

Anyway, I will pray for you. I understand what you'll be going through as I am just finishing my degree, so I wish you well. And don't worry too badly, college is scary at first, but it really is alot of fun.

A long time ago, in a state far far away...

I went to college. Actually, it wasn't near as intimidating as graduating college and starting my first "gotta pay all my bills" job.

Praying for you.

Thanks guys...I really appreciate it.

Things aren't going real smooth...I've relapsed into a few old...er..."antisocial" behaviors that I thought were gone...I'm afraid I'll end up all alone in the dorm room all the time...

Sheesh...I sound pathetic...

Don't worry about it, you'll get used to college life soon enough. Just make sure to get involved with a few groups on campus and talk to the people near you and things will improve. Goodness, if a geek (I'm an engineer, I don't use the term lightly) such as myself can make friends and get involved in college, anyone can. It just takes time to get used to.

Take nothing but math & science courses your first semester or two. The subjectivity of english teachers can be maddening.

Randomly read your Bible while waiting for classes, and see if it attracts the attention of nearby believers who can become your friends.

You CAN get As in all your classes.

If it's a large campus, scope out the buildings & room numbers before the first day of classes, to prevent against frantic-lostness.

Try to sit in the front 2 rows.

No matter what your friends/cousins/olderSiblings told you, NEVER SKIP CLASSES!

If you fail all your classes & have to live in a box on the street, remember that God is awesome & still in control.

Definitely a tough transition in life, but you'll look back on it and thank God for getting you through it. Hang in there, and I'll be praying. :thumb:

Yep, I've been through the whole college thing. :) One thing I'd strongly recommend is getting involved in some sort of campus ministry group, such as Campus Crusade for Christ, Navigators, or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. I was in Crusade myself, and it not only helped me out in my spiritual walk, but I was able to connect with and form friendships with a lot of other encouraging people.

Lifting you up, and please keep us posted as to how it's going in college.

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

Fortunately...I'm going to a Christian college...

The start of classes wasn't bad...I find homework easier than socializing. Being a Computer Science major reinforcess my...geekines, I guess...so I'm not fitting in with the sports folk(my roommate is one).

Certain people have been dragging me out of the dorm room to do stuff, so y'alls prayers are helping...but I still need them...

God can use your dislike for sports for your benefit;
My dislike for sports landed me a nice part-time job on campus.

(One of the first questions I was asked while applying was "Are you a sports fan?" because apparently some people in the past took this saturday-based job without realizing there's football games on saturday & then quit.)

I normally don't recommend college & employment at the same time, but my job has 55 minutes of free time per hour that I can use for homework & stuff.

>.<

This isn't good...I...er...

My roommate isn't being anything other than tolerant of the fact that I share a room with her. You know what really hurts? She ignores me when anything is going on. She doesn't want to be seen with me. Anyone who's been on the bump thread or the chat with me knows I hate to be ignored. It's more than that, really, because in reality, I've been ignored most of my life and I'm sick of it. So sick, in fact, that my thought processes are trying to revert on me. Bit of info for those who haven't guessed, Q has a problem with depression and...suicidal stuff. I've been pretty good for a coupla years now, but it's trying to come back to me. Please pray! I need it!

Ok...I thought things were going alright...but I broke down again today. Seems I have the uncanny ability to attract faculty attention(at the last college a teacher decided to make me one of her special "projects") because my faculty Mentor dragged me off into her office, where I really broke down and cried. A tearful conversation ensued, and by the end of my visit I found myself scheduled to meet with the school counselor and invited out to dinner with my Mentor. God obviously likes putting me in these situations, so I think I'll accept the help that's being offered. My meeting with the counselor is next week. Please pray that I get things resolved.

Meh...more info on the life of Q...

I went to an interview for a job on campus a couple of days ago...found out that I didn't get it today. Normally, this sort of thing would have triggered a very violent emotional reaction...aka severe depression...but I felt nothing. That was good. :)

Everything else has been kind of...continuously up and down all day every day. I feel fine for a while, then something happens that makes me feel out of place and I get depressed. My first visit with the school counselor was only a "hi, nice to meet you" kind of thing...we haven't discussed anything important yet. So...yeah...I know I keep saying this...but I still need prayer...

This is all to frequent...I feel like a blogger...XD;;

Anywho...I've gotten the help I need, been refered to a psychiatrist, hopefully will be getting medication sometime in the near future...but something else has come up...

I just had an extended conversation with someone who is hurting just like I've been. In fact, this is a recurring thing. I appear to be a magnet for depressed and hurt people just looking for someone to talk to. The prayer is that with all of these, I could listen. And care deeply for them. This might be why God has chosen me to be in this situation here at college...because I think it's fairly odd for this many of them to be seeking me out at random...
