A song by weird al about how wrong it is to download songs... Go to this site to download it (or weird al's myspace, for that matter, or his website)

Hahahahahahahaha! It's so stinking funny...

"YOu don't wanna mess with the R-I-double A. They'll sue you if you burn that CD-R. It doesn't matter if you're a grandma, or a seven year old girl, they'll treat you like the evil, hardbitten(?) Criminal scum you are."

Hahaha

"Don't take away money from artists just like me. How else can I afford another solid gold humvee?"

"Even lars ulrich knows it's wrong (you can just ask him!)"

hahahaha

This echoes his words about P2P on his website... "I have very mixed feelings about {downloading music}. On one hand, I’m concerned that the rampant downloading of my copyright-protected material over the Internet is severely eating into my album sales and having a decidedly adverse effect on my career. On the other hand, I can get all the Metallica songs I want for FREE! WOW!!!!!"

Nice song... it doesn't make the most amount of serious sense though - due to services like itunes and WalMart.com (although Yankovic dislikes them slightly). But I guess that "Don't Download This Song, Illegally" would be a much less catchy title.

To be honest, I love Weird Al, but...I don't find this song THAT funny. ^^; The only thing I think really made me even chuckle is the solid gold humvees. XD

I love the music video, though.

Actually, he's making fun of the paradox brought on by copyright protection enforcement in the post-napster age... Making fun of the artists (like metalica) who had no real need to sell more songs (as if downloading completely cuts off sales, since it definately doesn't) but at the same time, acknowledging that it's wrong. He thinks the problem is real, but the solution is exaggerated, I think based on what I've read, and based on this song. Really, it's only the megastars like Metalica and Eminem that have fought it, but the artists that barely make livings from their music haven't spoken up as much. That could be because they getting screwed more by the record companies than they are by the pirates...

You're right, though, he prefers CD sales... I admit I find it strange he gets less money from iTunes than record sales, but I guess you have TWO extra groups getting paid by those instead of just one... The Record company AND Apple... Anyhow...
