Wisdom Teeth >_<

Postby the_lizardqueen » Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:35 pm

My younger brother and I are both getting our wisdom teeth out on Friday. I am seriously dreading it, but I guess that's to be expected. We met with the oral surgeon today and honestly, he's a bit weird. He was actually mentioning healing Chi at one point O_o

But our orthodontist recommended him, and he seems nice so here's to hoping for the best. I would really, really appreciate prayer about the procedure, especially the anesthesia. I have never been put under before and I'm so worried that they won't do it right. I keep remembering horror stories that I've heard about people being unconcious in surgery and still feeling everything >_<

And prayer for my brother would also be appreciated ^^; Huge thanks to everyone that reads this ^_^

I'll pray for ya. :) I've had tooth surgery before, and being put under really isn't so bad at all. I have yet to get my wisdom teeth out (they haven't even come in yet...o_o), but once you get through the prick in the arm/hand to put you to sleep, the rest shouldn't be too hard. :thumb:

The evil wisdome teeth!!! Muwahahaha! Hey there, LQ. Haven't had them out yet, huh? Well I had mine out a few years ago. I shall be praying for you both, but allow me to offer some words of advice and encouragement.

Although I suppose it varies from person to person, honestly, the surgery wasn't bad at all. Some people don't remember anything, not even the drive home. I remember quite well, apparently I was semi-concious (I remember him asking me to open wider at one point) but i didn't feel any pain.

Word of advice, about 24 hours after surgery, your jaw muscles will probably be really tight and stiff, making it hard to open your mouth very far. Don't fight it. I kinda forced my mouth open at this point and I don't think my jaw muscles have been quite the same since. But if you do hey, don't sweat it, you'll just be able to 'pop' your jaw...like me. ^^

Other than that, the most annoying thing was keeping the 'holes' in my mouth clean while they healed, especially the lower jaw (since food and junk collects there easily). Jam that syringe down in there and squirt that water hard! If you notice a hard lump forming on one side of your jaw, (and it happened to me) that means there's a small infected pocket. Go in while it's small/painless and have them clean it out for you. I guess most people wait until it's huge and really hurts!

Now, I certainly hope none of that scared you, because it shouldn't have. (and if for some bizarre reason it did, feel free to yell at me until you feel better  ) Seriously, with two weeks and some pain medication...you'll be fine.

Chi eh? Maybe you should go to an acupuncturist so the chi "flows right" after they get pulled ;) Heh... but yeah I'll be praying... I've only got 2 and supposingly will need to come out eventually (SO not looking forward to that day either >_<)

Thanks so much for the support and encouragement everyone, and to Eso for the (extremely) detailed advice

Still dreading it, but I'm feeling a tiny bit more prepared and optimistic now ^_^

For me it was 4 wisdom teeth, 2 hours, unconcious. I thank God for my high pain tolerance cause I only needed pain medicine for the first week.

I'll be praying. ^-^

well, I was a wake unlike you and it wasn't bad as everybody says. I just iritaded by the noise and the feeling I got from it. I know it was the feeling of heat but thats all, not much. Afterwords was just resting time which I was not tired so I watch anime and got into trouble with my mom, but overall it really is a big deal =)

Apparently I'm going to be put under a light anesthesia, so I will probably be asleep. But oh my word. I'm reading about Anesthesia Awareness and freaking myself out. I so shouldn't be doing this >_<

Well on the bright side it's just a tooth extraction, not open heart surgery. Though there's still sharp pointy objects involved. Why do I always have to overanalyze?

But it is encouraging to know that some of you were conscious during the procedure and none the worse for the wear. Must. stay. calm. I'm probably going to be completely freaking out in the morning *sigh*

I survived! And I have absolutely no recollection of the surgery

I'm kinda swollen and icky right now, but I'm hoping that the worst is over with. Thanks again for the prayers and advice ^_^

It's not too bad. I remember when I got my wisdom teeth out (which is to say I don't remember very much of it at all), I sat around and ate a lot of pudding and played Onimusha 2.

I hate pudding now, but I did get good at Onimusha 2.

i had one of my canine teeth removed a few weeks ago, because it was growing in side ways. don't worry. i had my tonsils out before this, and was dreading surgury again, but it wasn't that bad actually. i was not feeling so good for a few days, but i healed quickly. don't worry.

Yay! Our coloring contest judge is still alive! JK!! Yeah, you won't feel super great for a few days, but it'll get better. Is your jaw all bruised looking? I remember mine sure was.... Glad you (and I'm assuming your brother) survived. ;)
