Job situation

Postby freerock1 » Tue Aug 08, 2006 10:12 pm

Hey all,

Please keep me in your prayers regarding my job situation. I've been pretty upset about some things in it recently and have started the search for something new. Please pray that God's will would be done, that He'd lead me where He'd have me to go (whether it's a new job or to stay here), and for peace and a right attitude as long as I am here. Thanks!
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

80% of my friends almost have problems with their current jobs (aka you're not alone). It'll be good to find out what God wants you to do. Will pray for you.

It seems like you have a good attitude about this. I commend you for that. I will most certainly be praying.

Thanks, all, for the prayers and words of encouragement.

Just to give a little more insight into the situation... Right now I'm working for a Christian-owned non-profit company/ministry. It's a small operation, such that I have nearly direct contact with the company president.

I actually volunteered with this company for a while before I was asked to come on paid staff. It wasn't exactly my dream job, but pretty close to it. It's not great money, but it's paid my bills, and I largely took the job because I felt it was investing in the eternal. I didn't really see it being a long-term job unless things really started taking off and I was able to make significantly more money, because I know I'll probably want to get married and have my own family at some point, and at what I was making, it probably wouldn't support a family. But it was something I enjoyed doing, and I felt that while I'm young, single, and don't have a lot of commitments, I could afford to do it for a while.

But over the last few months, the company has begun to focus less and less on the ministry side of things, and more on what management thinks can bring in more money. And I can understand the thinking; the ministry side of things hasn't been the most financially productive, and those funding the operation should support their families as well. But I'm concerned that the company president has lost focus of where he's supposed to be, to a large degree. I believe that his motives are good, but a little misguided.

Add to that some personal tensions in the office recently. Lately it's got me wanting out. The job I do is fairly specialized, and (I hope I can say this without sounding conceited) I think the management feels it needs me. But I'm feeling taken for granted, not to mention disconnected with the company and its current direction lately. And I wonder if maybe my discontent is in part an uneasiness in my spirit about the company's direction.

I'm trying to keep a good attitude, and I think I'm doing so for the most part. (If I'm not, I pray that God changes me!) But it's certainly a test at times.

So anyway, please keep me in your prayers. I've started searching and sending out resumes. Pray for me that I would be in God's will and exactly where He wants me. Please pray that I would have the time to do the searching that I should (my schedule is pretty busy these days at times), and that I wouldn't be hindered by a lack of confidence, in myself or in Him. At the same time, please pray for me that I wouldn't step out of His will and into something different before it's His time. And as I said, please pray for me, for grace and a right attitude throughout the whole ordeal.

The Bible says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (not that I'm good by my own righteousness, but I'm defined by His righteousness in me). So I guess I need to lay hold of that promise

Thanks, again, for your prayers. Lord willing, I'll keep you posted. :)

Hello dude,

Actually I'm also in a bind in work (namely, I want/need to resign--when school starts, I'll have two jobs, not counting the one I'm working right now).

So you have my prayer.

Yes, please do pray for management to be focused on God as they need to be as well. Thank you for mentioning that.

Thanks, bro. I'll be lifting you up as well.

Hey all... just wanted to give a quick update on some things that have been happening with this, and ask for continued prayers.

My hours got cut, so now I'm on semi-layoff status. Needless to say, the company isn't doing very well financially, and some of the things that management thought would bring in the money isn't doing much. Meanwhile, the personal tensions have escalated somewhat.

So I've picked up the pace with the job search as well. I'm sending out the resumes, but there just doesn't seem to be that much good stuff out there right now. It gets frustrating when you're searching and sending out resumes, and what little response you do receive is usually, "We cannot offer you a position at this time." I guess about the only things I can do are pray, and keep on searching and sending out resumes. I have sent a few letters to connections from the past, though, including one former employer with whom I had a very good relationship, so perhaps something will turn up through that.

And not to sound overly dramatic, but I feel like this may be part of a spiritual warfare. I'm involved in a semi-leadership position in my church, and we're currently in the process of making a move into a new building. But it seems like so many people connected to the church are going through stuff right now. A close friend of mine is in the early stages of a divorce. Another guy was seriously injured recently in an accident, and there's a legitimate question as to whether he'll ever walk again. Several other people have been ill and hospitalized lately. Not to mention the stress associated with moving into a new building. Several of us have a sense that God is about to do something big with this church. But to get there, it looks like we're going to have to go through some stuff first.

So please continue to keep me in your prayers with the job situation and search, as well as those others in our church who are going through these trials. And I don't want to fail to thank God for what I do have. I do still have some work, and my needs have been met. And He's teaching me some stuff during this. Also, thank Him for what He's going to do in these situations.

Thanks for your continued prayers.
