Ok, first off, the "romance" was completely a joke. And like it or not, God put your parents over you for a reason. Even if you don't agree with them, we are all to honor our fathers and mothers and obey them (Luke 18:20, Colossians 3:20, Ephesians 6:1-3). So if your parents ask you to stop watching a certain show or anime altogether, regardless of the legitmacy of it, God expects us to obey. That's called submission, and if it were easy I'm sure God wouldn't have mentioned it at least 8 times. Our parents have a responsibility to God for raising us correctly, so it's natural for them to be protective of what we see, especially if they are Christian parents.

Secondly, I don't really understand how you seem to think this is religious discrimination. Could you expland on that? You don't have to be a Christian to feel a bit uneasy about sharing the fact you like anime.

Well, I don't think that is religious discrimination. I've always seen religious discrimination as if some people tell me "Hey you can't hang out with us cuz your from such and such denomination and we hate you people that are from that denomination". Hope you guys get what I'm trying to say. But we should always obey our parents. I really think that God has gave parents a special feeling somthing is wrong kinda thing. Because there was this one time where my mom said somthing to me and I got mad and she said that she didn't want me playing any more computer games cuz they were making me violent. I was like 12 at the time and just getting in to games and anime so I really didn't know any better. But I like became like possesed when they took all my games and threw them all away after that when I had relaxed I was like why did I act like that. Now I'm almost 18 and I really thank God for that day because now I know why they did those things because they kewn it would destroy me and my walk with God. So obey because you never know they may very well save you from your ultimate downfall. As a result of that I have a bigger understanding of things when I buy my games and why some have a negitave effect on kids. Part of a reason why I want to go into game development. Well, I've already said too much, but too bad about what happened with t-chan and Eben.

Hey, Benu. I haven't officially welcomed you to the boards, but I like what you're saying here. Most of the time, parents really do know what they're doing. And if I were you, Christianotaku, I'd really look into what the Bible has to say about rebellion.

Then of course you are to obey God the Father.

"Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, anyone who loes his son or daughter more than me is not worth of me, and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me"--Matt. 10:37

Obviously God does want us to obey our parents, but He wants no man, woman or object placed above Him.

I want to make this very, very clear: the scripture above is talking about if you wouldn't want to do the work of God because of fear of offending a family member, etc. Or staying at home to take care of them when God has asked you to be in the field. That sort of thing. Not when you don't get your way or your parents don't see eye to eye with you. I repeat, God only asks us to go against our parent's wishes when they stop us from doing His will. This would be things like them asking us to murder, steal, etc.

The reality is, 99% of us will not have to forsake our parents for the Gospel. Even if they are not Christian, most parents intristically know a moral standard of what's right and what's not.

Also, if this ever came up, I would seek church council. A deacon you adore, a pastor, a leader you cherish...an adult strong in the faith. They can help decipher what is truly of God and what is only pretending to be.

yeah, listen to your parents like you would to God. think about it; what would God see in you if He sees you act badly against your father or mother? Wouldn't God think too that you act as such against Him? God IS your Father, after all...

but then again, God wouldn't make you murder people, would He? and since your parents are humans like anyone is, they make errors. thus, God is to be places higher than your parents.

a bit of common sense, and it all works out. if you think about it, majority of Bible is common sense if you get the core of it...

The original topic reminds me of what's going on with my mother. If you guys don't know what I'm talking about, read the "Prayer for my Mother" thread in the Prayer Request forum. Yes it is true that we must honor our father and mother. But as for the "obey" aspect Ephesians 6:1 says this:

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right."

I point out the "in the Lord" part of that verse. Of course, we must show are parents respect, but we must not accept and obey anyone's request if it is not in the Lord, if it's not of God's Word, if it's against the Word of God.

If you disagree with me, please read the "Prayer for my Mother" thread first. You might understand what I mean.

The parental discussion was good and all, but I think it's said all it really needs to and we should get back on topic. I agree that we shouldn't just hide liking anime, but I don't feel the need to announce it. When I'm asked what I'm watching/reading I merely explain. I'm pretty much the sole anime fan in my youth group, but through me everyone else has gotten a much more balanced view of it.

On an inverse topic, I think it's even more important that we let other anime fans know we're Christian.

Oh, and on the anime + christian shirt idea... I'm eagerly awaiting what we end up with for a CAA shirt.

Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. I don't know why, but for some reason I really haven't seen this controversial side to liking anime. I had no idea there were Christians out there being looked down upon for being anime fans. Maybe it's just the community or something, but my friends and I have been as open about it as adults are about liking sitcoms. My folks watch it with me half the time. So I'm not sure why I haven't experienced the same "hush hush" situation as you all. Oh well. I'm sure not complaining. :thumb:

This sounds like its slipping into an anime is religon thing...be careful of your priorities guys....Because your parents do not like Anime....need you be reminded if you live with your parents....you are getting a free bed to sleep in...free food..and more. So if they don't like anime...deal with it...sad but true....someone hating anime is not religious descrimination.

Read Shatterheart's post again. While I have never before met someone who believed anime to be religion, I think you're seriously crossing the line and making your interest into an idol. Which is not good for your Christian faith nor good for your interests.

unfortunately Christianotaku i dont think that anything you do will change the ruling of T-chan and Eben's parents im sure there was a just reason for them to do that and even if not they still have to live with it since God expects us to obey our parents unless it means committing a sin im sorry that you feel persocuted but i dont think that you should after all think of the christians in 3rd world countries now that is persocution

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but...

Anyway, the way I see it is that if you're parents don't like anime, first: ask them why not. If they say something like, "Oh, that series is all demonic", or something like that, then check it out for yourself against the Bible. I'm reminded of science class, where the cell membrane (or cell wall, I can't remember) only lets in stuff that will be good for food, and keeps out the bad.

If there is something wrong with the series, and you continue to watch it (in private), remember that God is everywhere. Good advice is to pray before indulging in a new series.

But if they generalize it, or you're sure there's nothing wrong with the series, then either point it out nicely to them that there is nothing wrong with the series, or that not all anime is bad.

If they still don't like it, ask them if they would mind you watching it in private. If they say no, then you're kinda stuck.

General rule is just to obey your parents, because they're usually right and in line with God's Word. But if they ask you to do something that you're not sure about, pray and look in the Bible to see if it's against Him. If you're parents are Christian, (not hypocritical) then you have even less to worry about.
I'm back to make a post or two every couple years...

Now I'm curious. How many people persecute you because you watch anime? Is it because of something you said? Is it because of something they said? I've never experienced this and would like to know a bit more about it.

persecution follows as

all japanese animation is porn

or all japanese animation is kid shows

or the more popullar

thos pokemon are demons

then theres

thos light flashes at the begging of DBZ are sublimal demonic messages

theres more if you want

Hmm, I agree. I've been laughed at a little for liking "those weird Japanese cartoon thingys" before, but nothing that I took as a personal attack. Each to his own, ya know? When I was younger and still directly accountable to my parents, they warned me to be careful with anime, just as they warned me to be careful about other things, such as games and other animation genres. They didn't do it for a power trip or to control my life - they did it to protect me because they love me.

And Christianotaku, everyone has answered your questions in various and credible ways. If you keep this up, you're going to get dizzy from the little circles you're running in ...

What's the big deal about anime?
When you look at it from another picture, it's just some story where all the events are executed in animated pictures.
But it's a whole other subject when you consider 'the not suitable for children' content in some anime(swears, nudity scenes). Although, most channels like Cartoon Network or WB cut most of it...

But if your parents don't let you whatch anime, I wouldn't argue with 'em, like Ashley mentioned, God says that you should obey your parents. As an addition, God also says that parents must treat their children in a justified way.

I don't think your parents are doing anything cruel, or sinful by not letting you whatch anime(although you might feel like they are), but your parents are your parents.

But hey, my parents don't let me hang out with some neighborhood friends, and look how I turned out
(just kidding)
