I just beat Majora's Mask (with challenging limitations)

Postby Agent Anderson » Sun Jun 25, 2006 2:12 am

(After putting it off for a few years), this weekend, I picked up my Zelda: Majora's Mask game and beat the final boss. The special thing about this run of the game was:
-3 hearts
-1 bottle
-no weapons upgrades
-only the ABSOLUTELY necessary masks to get through game events: Deku, Goron, Zora, Gibdo, Garo, Captain's Hat

that means no giant's mask (makes the Twinmold battle pretty hard), no stone mask (makes the pirate's fortress pretty hard), no bunny hood (makes the Ikana skeleton battle pretty hard), and of course no Fierce Deity mask (which, combined with the 3 hearts & 1 bottle, made the final boss so hard that I gave up on the game for years)

YAY! I HAVE NO LIFE!

Right as I deliver the final blow:

I'm feeling a bit skeptical, then again there are people who do this.

How many times did you die? That screenshot seems too highquality to be taken with a digital camera and a tv, did you emulate?

(Sweeet. I really need to do that sometime - at least when I either get a new N64 controller (the control sticks on ours are all messed up from playing them so much. O_o), or get it for the GC/Wii. I used to be good enough to do it way back when, when our controllers, y'know, actually worked correctly.)

I decided to record video of the final battle on a PCI TV-Capture card, since my brother was asleep and wanted to see it.

I forget how many times I died, since MM is a Zelda game with no death-counter.

Speaking of which, I once defeated Link to the Past without dying; and saving in that game counts as dying. (I left the system on overnight on pause a few times.)

Well, at least you did something that is fairly difficult. You could have been playing online poker the entire time. Really, though, I guess I should congratulate you on such a difficult feat. Finishing the game once with all the masks was enough for me...

I never finished MM because I got fed up when I had to play through the pirates fortress for thr 6th consecutive time after saving confusions and power outages sent me back in time over and over. =o=

That's impressive though. Very nice job.

Dude! I couldn't beat it normally. You should get a medal or something. I got frustrated and bored with it and quit when I had to do something with catching bugs in a jar and bringing it back to a redead. I had one jar. >_<

The Winner Is YOU!!!! :D

Majora's Mask always was my favorite, because of the weird story and mask thingies... I never got to do much in the game, because I never owned the game myself, though.
had enough.

Also interesting:
Videos of some people's speed runs

They use some glitches/tricks in the interest of time, like using a bomb to blow Link over a fence without using a horse.

Woaaaah! o.o You're the man! That was awesome *checks out those other videos*

Btw, nice suspense buildup at the end XD I almost thought you wouldn't make it.

I haven't even beaten the game before, but that was incredible.

And yeah, I thought you were a goner, too.

One question: why did you keep switching between the Zora mask and Link when you attacked in the third round (I haven't gotten that far in the game, so I'm not sure...)?

Because when ZoraLink uses the boomerangs, his shield is disabled. Switching back & forth to the Zora form makes his fins reappear, allowing shielding & still having the boomerangs in the air.

Yep. That's some smart playing right there ^^ I need to try that, it was always annoying waiting for the fins to reappear.

That's looks difficult, try this though.

Legend of Zelda OOT: Master quest with the same limitations.
