Questions to all artists to the christians!!!!

Postby Amenman » Thu Jan 22, 2004 11:51 pm

Are there many Christians among manga (comic) artists?
Do you, Christian manga artists, draw for secular editions?
What subjects for your stories do you use then?
Do you have to omit any themes in that case?
Do newspapers and magazines publish Christian manga?
Is it possible to publish one s Christian manga in your country or elsewhere in the world?
What newspapers or magazines could publish Christian manga?
Do you get paid for your mangas (Christian and secular) enough to make a living?
Are there any clubs or other organizations for Christian comic-manga artists?
Is it possible to send manga for publication via e-mail or one should bring them in person?

Woah, lots of questions there.

I definately recommend a visit to http://www.animeangels.net - they've brought out a Christian mangazine and there are quite a few links to webmanga pages on there too.
There's also a Christian manga webring at http://www.psychoteers.com/exchange/ - it's called "cognatio".

I'll answer all these questions as best to my knowledge...if I'm wrong on any of these points anyone feel free to correct me.

>Are there many Christians among manga (comic) artists?

No.

>Do you, Christian manga artists, draw for secular editions?

No, not personally anyway - I can't say for sure for anyone else here.

>What subjects for your stories do you use then?

(doesn't apply, since I don't submit to secular publications)

>Do newspapers and magazines publish Christian manga?

Only the Anime Angels Mangazine, as far as I know.

>Is it possible to publish one s Christian manga in your country or elsewhere in the world?

Possible, yes. It would be costly though, I'd guess.

>What newspapers or magazines could publish Christian manga?

No secular/mainstream ones I know of. Wel, I guess -any- of them -could- but they won't. It might be possible to get a Christian magazine to showcase one for a short while.

>Do you get paid for your mangas (Christian and secular) enough to make a living?

No. *sobs*

>Are there any clubs or other organizations for Christian comic-manga artists?

Only Cognatio, and I guess CAA and AA so far, although obviously they aren't restricted to just anime artists.

>Is it possible to send manga for publication via e-mail or one should bring them in person?

*shrugs* Depends on where you're sending to and their guidelines for submission...

(in response to an interview question "Do you have a pet peeve having to do with this biz?")
People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Hey, I couldn't resist replying to this....

>>Are there many Christians among manga (comic) artists?
Don't think so

>>Do you, Christian manga artists, draw for secular editions?
I don't draw for any publications at the moment. If I ever did, it's only if they allow christian messages in my works. ^^

>>What subjects for your stories do you use then?
I'm going to assume you mean what type of stories I would write then. I guess I would write everyday life, relationship type stories. My focus is young girls, especially the shoujo types. The more realistic, the better. But of course, action/fantasy types are more fun and they usually attract guys more. But it's more difficult for me to deliver a Christian message while using fantasy elements.

>>Do you have to omit any themes in that case?
Christian elements you mean? No, of course not...Instead, I would certainly omit "annoying but common" themes such as fanservice, unnecessary gore and other stuff that usually bothers Christians. But then again....I'm guessing no secular publication would accept my works then....SIGGGHHHH....

>>Is it possible to publish one s Christian manga in your country or elsewhere in the world?
it's really hard in my country, unless you have loads of cash. 0.o

>>Do you get paid for your mangas (Christian and secular) enough to make a living?
Nope, and I don't expect to.

>>Is it possible to send manga for publication via e-mail or one should bring them in person?
Probably depends on the publisher, neh?

didn't answer the rest of the questions since I think Inky did a great job with em.

Cheers

Are there many Christians among manga (comic) artists?
- Define "Christian" XD. I know quite a bit but they are all in the secular field.

Do you, Christian manga artists, draw for secular editions?
- Only my own, or if a friend needs a favor. If not, then I won't personally go looking for it.

What subjects for your stories do you use then?
- Probably something dark and morbid or humorous and light. Action and romance too.

Do you have to omit any themes in that case?
- Nudity and sexual themes plus anything mocking/insulting to God in general.

Do newspapers and magazines publish Christian manga?
- A few Christian magazine in Indonesia do, and the Anime Angel Mangazine (I'm going on repeat mode here XD)

Is it possible to publish one s Christian manga in your country or elsewhere in the world?
- Underground, yes, quite possibly. Or if you disguise it well enough then you can even have it published by Indonesia's mainstream manga publishers.

What newspapers or magazines could publish Christian manga?
- Christian ones XD Anime Angel's Mangazine, then a few other magazines in Indo then I guess you can count Ruckus and Megazeen as magazines....

Do you get paid for your mangas (Christian and secular) enough to make a living?
- Nope! Still a student so I haven't found the need yet to get paid ^^

Are there any clubs or other organizations for Christian comic-manga artists?
- Answered nicely by the others ^^

Is it possible to send manga for publication via e-mail or one should bring them in person?
- Yes, it worked for Anime Angels Mangazine, Ruckus and Megazeen ^^

You can find Anime Angels Mangazine here : http://www.animeangels.net/
