I'll just quote my own post from the similar thread at Anime Angels. :lol:

" wrote:Man, there are so many hymns that I like but I don't know where to begin! ^_^;; :lol: I'll try to rattle off some of the ones I often find myself humming, though...

Count Your Blessings
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
All Creatures Of Our God And King
Let All The People Praise Thee

That's all I can think of for now; I may post more later once I think of them or if someone reminds me of them later on in this thread. :) (I guess a lot of the hymns I've arranged on the Melodies of Heaven section of my site, The BASIC FAQs, could be considered favorites of mine as well. ^_^ )

...And I do also like the ones you posted, Puritan. :)

I just heard this one today, in light of Luther's rather merciless perspectives on the Jews and other groups, the verse about God's "cruel hate" in this hymn seriously bothers me.

You misread the hymn, Ghostonthenet. SATAN is armed with cruel hate:
"For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His (i.e. Satan's) craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal."

The hymn is trying to point out the evil of Satan, and then goes on to say that without Christ we would be lost, as we could do nothing against Satan, an evil and cruel enemy. As for Luther's views, I would be happy to discuss them with you via PM, but there was alot going on there. However, to portray Luther as full of hate is to miss the meaning of much of his work and his life, and though he, like all of us, had terrible faults and bad views, I think you are completely missing the point of the hymn.
