well this has been long in coming, due to various things going on in my life i haven't been on in a while, but i thought i would give another update to show how well michaels doing.
He has passed the three month mark post transplant. He has been going back to St Louis frequently to have check ups and biopsies of his heart. Most recently he was there last week. All of his biopsies have shown no rejection or clinically insignificant rejection. He has been weaned
off of many of his meds; initially he was on about 12 meds most of which
were twice a day. Now he's on 5, next month he should drop down to 3. If you see him you would never guess that he was ever sick. He runs and plays and can keep up with anyone! He is truly miraculous, remember that he had severe pulmonary hypertension, he had severely elevated antibody levels (high risk for rejection, not transplantable at many hospitals), and had an active infection at the time of his transplant (another reason why not to transplant someone). Since his transplant he has not had any evidence of pulmonary hypertension, no evidence of significant rejection, and no evidence of infection.
On Aug 26 , Michael was introduced at the beginning of the Cardinals baseball game as a representative of the transplant program at Children's hospital. Dr. Gandhi was there to hold him during that introduction!
All you have to do is go back to the begining of this thread to see how sick he was, and the various complications that arose during his hospitalization. It truly is a miracle how this event that could have been so tragic, turned out better than hoped for. This will probably be the last post in this thread, unless there is something else significant to post.
God Bless all of you, thank you for supporting our family and
Michael!!
