Favorite LucasArts Adventure Game

Postby Steeltemplar » Sat May 13, 2006 9:19 am

Last night while talking to a friend I was reminded of the old classic adventure game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Ah, I do remember the days of those old classics.

Anyone else remember these? What was your favorite?

I am not sure that there were any Star Wars adventure games. They certainly made quite a few Star Wars games, but did they have any of that genre?

Yes, Full Throttle was awesome. Ben has to be one of the greatest adventure characters ever.

Anyway, the Gabriel Knight series, which I also have not played, was produced by Sierra.

KotOR? Or at least the box has their logo on it, or does this include only older generation games?

KOTOR, while a fantastic game, is an RPG. "Adventure Game" as we are defining it here is a story-based game which is driven primarily by solving puzzles, often using an inventory system and conversing with game characters in the game. It is similar to an RPG, except that adventure games usually will not have a stat and level progression and focus nearly entirely on puzzles with little or no combat.

It's a five way tie! The first three Monkey Island games, Day of the Tentacle, and Sam and Max. I can't choose just one...

I voted Grim Fandango as well. It's really too bad that there was, what, one LucasArts adventure game after that? GF was a hilarious game, though.

I'm pretty sure Star Wars: Lightsaber Battles for PS1 was an adventure game.

And there were ones for SNES, as well...

But, I haven't played any of the other Lucas arts games, except an Indiana Jones game for SNES... o.o
had enough.

Is there any possible way I could get a Christian review for Grim Fandango somewhere? I've been interested in playing it, but I'm iffy on the underworld setting.

MONKEY ISLAND! You can't get much better than Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate. I do hope they bring out a fifth game sometime...

Of those listed, I only played Fate of Atlantis" and The Dig. The Dig was better, and I really liked the alien environment, even if the dialogue was cheesy.

I personally thought that there was nothing religiously offensive in the game. It does not really take any sort serious theological stance. Naturally, the way that death and the afterlife operate in the game is not how we know it to be. But neither are the game designers suggesting that it does. The whole thing is meant to be kind of silly and off the wall.

As to a review, this is the only one I could find:

http://www.ccgr.org/modules.php?name=MReviews&op=show&rid=126

I highly recommend the game, myself. I should go replay it if I can find the discs around.

alone,
And this I know.
Your breath's like wine,
And just like clouds, my skin crawls.
It's so divine, the sky it glows with fields of light.
Did you know that I love you?
Come and lay with me.
I love you.
And all this day, I will love you.
You make me feel alive,
and I'll love you
Until the end of time.

Day of the Tentacle was the most hilarious thing ever...
As vast as the world around you may seem, in actuality, it's a very small place.
The limits of your experiences, the sphere that's within your reach, Ultimately defines limits of your understanding.
The world as you know is not reality.
That is a world you have created yourself.
