If they wanted to go the fanservice route, they could have had Samus running all over the place in the bikini they showed her wearing in the previous games, but they gave her a full suit that covers her entire body. I don't see how that's fanservice.
I do know about the Zero Mission bit [that is why they called it the Zero Suit, most likely] and that it could be much worse, but I was referring to the way it clings, particularly in the back. I guess the front doesn't bother me as much, seeing as how that's not entirely unrealistic, but in back? Fanservice, man. Fanservice. Your normal wetsuits, etc don't do that. You would have to make the suit specifically to do that, and besides being pointless, it would likely be uncomfortable to boot. 'Twas done that way for one reason.
I would have personally liked to have seen Samus wear a black three-quarter trenchcoat over it with rolled-up sleeves. But that's just me. I wouldn't think she would want any of the inevitable . . . attention that suit would draw on its own. Fully covering or not, it doesn't leave much to the imagination shapewise.
Now, I don't lust watching the scenes with Samus, mind you [one: 'tis harder with animated characters, [though not impossible by any means ~ just look at hentai [not literally]], two: I specifically watch her face/hair/gun/whip etc. since they interest me more, three: I'm determined, by God's help, to beat lust, and four: I like Samus way too much. She's on my list of people I would hug for being so awesome, along with Jesus [obviously], Kenshin, Vash, Samurai Jack, and many of my friends [whom I do hug often]]. But Samus is too awesome to be dishonored by being objectified through fanservice. Way too awesome.

[PS]: I understand the points made about how a tight suit would be practical and how Samus just wouldn't take aesthetics into account at all [although I dunno about that ~ she keeps her hair and face looking spiffy, as though it mattered ^_^] ~ I'm not suggesting Samus switch to BDUs. To be honest, the suit doesn't faze me either, as I said. Let me have my opinion ~ I'm just addressing it on principle. I'm just suggesting one minor change. Sheesh! I don't approve of the bikinis or, to a lesser extent, her Fusion undersuit ['tis a little too "Faye Valentine" for me, although not that bad] either ~ those were worse. I'm just adressing the suit within the context of THIS game. Off my back, please. >_< Thank you. This spine's got all it needs supporting my weight. ^_^
Me, I'm not saying it's way out of line. I'm not even saying the suit itself is deliberately fanservicey. It's got its reasons, like Snake and Raiden's Sneaking and Skull Suits [respectively] do. In the guys' case, it's for stealth purposes [no loose clothing to rustle, no needless enlargment of the body silhouette, resistance to the elements [especially Raiden what with his swimming]. For Samus . . . the case has been made. I'm just saying there was one detail [I'm even dropping the front ~ it's not really bad at all, I've seen considerably worse on the cover of a Graphic-sha book] that, I think, was a step in the wrong direction. That is IT. Okay, thank you, on with the show.
