Aw, I'm sorry to hear that, Zelly! My cat got a hernia one time, and it was when he was still only about a year old-- he never had meowed before, so when I picked him up and he meowed/growled at me, I knew something was fishy. Except I just assumed he was being mean, so I smacked him on the head and said, "No, bad kitty!" Hey, it was years ago and I was stupid. At least I noticed something was wrong.
Anyways, have you asked your mom if anyone you know is a vet? If nothing else, she might know someone who knows someone that is a vet, it'd probably at least be worth asking. And I think that Roger's suggestion that you call a vet is a good one, just explain right away that you can't afford a visit but that if they could possibly share any kind of info over the phone it'd be cool. I really hope she gets better and that everything turns out OK-- I'll be praying for her!
