Weird Star Ocean cheat

Remember the original ps1 Star Ocean? Well I was playing it once and I came to the tournament. The one where you eventually fight Dias Flac who you can't beat. Well I wanted to see if I could beat him, so I put in a game shark code for unlimited hp. Something weird happened then. It was almost like the game knew what would happen, and it changed the code or something. Because during the tournament I didn't have unlimited hp, but when I beat an enemy I would go up like 3-5 levels. This cheat stayed on that account during the entire game and it worked on my entire party. Even with that I had troubles beating the final boss. Has anyone else had something like that happen?

Something similar to that happened to a friend of mine on Golden Sun. When you fight the two near the beginning that you aren't supposed to beat, well, you CAN'T. The game will freeze if you try. Lol.

I know that the original Star Ocean was on the SNES. I just used weird grammar, I meant the Star Ocean released on the original psone which is redundant anyway.
