Not that I'm having any financial problems, but my home town is. See, there's a single road that connects everything south of here (Half Moon Bay, Moss Beach, Santa Cruz, etc), and about 3 weeks ago that road was closed due to rock and mudslides resulting from a brutal onslaught of unending rain in this area. The result: it's near impossible to get south of here. What was once a 15 minute drive to Moss Beach is now a 2 hour (one way) trek across the Bay Area.
At first, this seemed to be nothing but a minor annoyance that this area has had to deal with many times in the past. But this time it's resulted in the area being declared in a state of economic disaster. At my workplace alone, something like 12 employees have quit because the commute is just too brutal. Business in the area has been cut down by a lot since tourists coming north from HMB can't reach Pacifica to get to SF, etc... In the end, everyone's spending a lot more money than they're making now.
Worse of all is all this immigration protesting; the refusal to go to work or buy goods/services. While I won't provide any political insight to this, I will simply say that it's all coming at a pretty bad time for this area. Things have already been hard enough, so we don't need more obstacles in the way of economic success.
And, unfortunately, it seems like there is yet to be any projected date for when the road is reopened... too much concern for the idea that it could happen again real soon.
The situation needs prayer, or a lot of businesses are going to suffocate to death. It's a small town, so the death of even the smallest roadside cafe is felt by the community as a whole. So I'm asking for prayer that things get fixed soon.
Thanx all.
