Finished vol. 1 of Pilot Candidate. I think if I get the chance this is one series I'd like to finish. The only bad thing I can say about ep.O3,EX is that the scenes where they evidently did it with CGI have too much of a clumsy feel to them. The rest of it is good though.

Mangafanatic wrote:Oh, LQ, I didn't even WATCH the first episode. It was ridiculous, IMHO. And, actually, the epidose that's labeled Episode 1 is actually Episode 00 according to the studio. I wouldn't even bother with it. There is some fan service in episodes 2 and 3, but it's usually just a scene or two and you usually know it's come. *Hint: Whenever Haruhi says she has a new outfit for she and Mikuru, it's time to start fastforwarding. Coincidentally, the outfit is a bunny outfit. So, yeah.*

Hmmn.. i watched the other two today... I'll be honest and say that the only thing that has interested me is this:
The fact that the two girls are really aliens
that is the only thing which may make me wanna watch the next eps, but I'm not sure. The whole fanservice aspect of it is so not needed. Kyon's statements about how weird everything is really reflects what I'm thinking as well. The spoofs that they do are sorta funny, but I think as a whole it's sorta mediocre... but we'll see if it gets better... but the bunny suit thing REALLY bothered me... it's also the difference between a guy watching this as opposed to a female... my view on it may be completely different from that of a female watching this...

hmmn *linksquest is thinking about not watching more...

IMO it's Azumanga Daioh, excel saga, and arrested developement all combined to make something more crude and less funny

Okay.... WHAT?

I just watched it now... Where is all this "large amount of fanservice" youre talking about. The only ones I saw were the bouncing chest. I guess the outfit and the camera cutting off right before she changes would count.

But that certaintly doesn't constitute as "lots of fanservice"... something like Full Metal Panic: Fomuffu is faservice. Excel saga has a lot of fanservice. This was just..... more or less nothing compared to those other titles. You are comparing this with excel saga. Have you even seen all of Excel Saga? No you didn't.

I wasn't comparing it to Excel saga in terms of the amount of fanservice... i was comparing it to the random aspect... something bad compared to something worse doesnt make the first thing any better... excel was worse than this in fanservice... so what... that doesn't make this NOT fanservice...

oh...and i have seen excel saga... i saw it with YOU, of all people. I thought you had a good memory, I guess not.

1) I didn't even reference the series like that
2) "all... you speak of" er... i said there was a lot... which to me is more than 3 instances of fanservice... and the occurances in the first eps were pretty bad.
3) I wouldn't have to see all of excel saga to know how bad the fanservice is (even if that's what i was referencing...)
4) have you even seen all of Haruhi Suzumiya (these 3 at least)? I assume not... and I am thinking, from watching the opener which also contains fanservice, that it will continue and could get much worse.... even to the extent of excel saga.

1. I was only referencing to your judgement on ep 1 with my judgement of ep 1. Your definition of "lots of fanservice" for ep 1 is clearly different than mine John... I did not see this "vast amount of fanservice" which you spoke of pertaining to episode 1.

Then you probably have seen much more fanservice than I have to have become callous to it and not as sensitive to it as I am...

Well maybe you're right John. Maybe I have seen more shows with fanservice than you.

Edit: I saw eps 2 and 3. There was some fanservice there. Out of the blue too. But I think it was done tastefully without it getting any worse. I also like Kyon's reactions to things. He's a real interesting character.

I would agree with LQ, that there is quite a bit of fanservice. Luckily, it's generally in just a scene or two, but within that scene-- it strikes me as somewhat over the top. Luckily, I am 1) A female 2) I can fast forward through it. But I don't really know if I would recommend it to a guy.

Eh, I'm not sure I'd completely agree in the "tastefully" score, Ryan. We definitely saw some bra in episode two. Quite UNtasteful, in my opinion.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Well, I don't mean everything was tasteful. But some things certaintly could of been worse. I mean guys werenr having bloody noses everywhere and drooling and stuff. Plus Kyon isn't really a closet-pervert so that I like

Yes, we saw Mikuru's bra. Big deal, girls wear bras. I'd be shocked (seriously) if you have never seen a bra in your life. It's just a piece of clothing. If I remember right, Kyon was worried about what Haruhi was doing to Mikuru and opened the door, he shut it like immediately after Mikuru said "Don't look", and keep in mind that this is Japan and bras in anime are far from taboo. From what I see, you're intentionally trying to make a mountain out of a molehill as opposed to enjoying what you're watching.

Anyway, I love how quick Kyon's gotten to running for the door every time Haruhi starts sporadically undressing ^_^

Oh, well, I did not mean for it to come across that way at all. However, as a woman, I can say most certainly that there would be nothing "mole hill-ish" occurring if some guy walked in on me in my bra, and I certainly would be most angry if my future husband was exposed to some woman in her undergarments. I always think on those terms, which makes things different for me. :P Right now, I'm watching the show, but I can't just accept immodesty simply because it isn't culturally taboo. I definitely do appreciate Kyon's respect for the women folk, but I wish the creators wouldn't use the female figure as something to be taken advantage of to excite the male audience.

I'm not saying the show can't be watched, but I don't think I could in good conscience suggest it to a guy friend. They can most certainly choose it on their own, but I just won't feel right about asking them to.

Well... I think I will be sitting Haruhi Suzumiya out. I have serious fears that the fanservice will get a lot worse... post about it, and if it lightens up I may watch in the future. Keep me posted on its progress. :thumb:

Utawarerumono 3.

If, and when this series ever comes to the US, I hope they can make the title easier to pronounce and STILL not be cheesy (Tsukihime Lunar Legend, call your office).

That eps on my "to watch" list this week. I don't really find it that hard to pronounce, once I finally know how to spell the thing^^ Yesy subs translates the title as "The One Being Sung", but I think it would be a more accurate "That THING Being Sung"... makes more sense that way too^^ Maybe they'll just translate it to the literal meaning?
