On April 20, 2006, after 12 long years of waiting, Mother 3 will finally be released in Japan. The moment that adults, kids, and even older girls have been waiting for is just around the corner. In commemoration of this event, MOTHER Party, the Japanese Mother Portal site, and Starmen.Net, the largest North American EarthBound site, are working together on a celebration of a scale neither site has seen before.

Yeah, we got Earthbound, which was Mother 2 in Japan. We never got a version of Mother, although there is a leaked english version of Mother on Homebrew for PSP (a friend of mine has it).

Nonetheless, this is really cool. I hope that we get M3. I really want to play that game. I also still want the Mother/Mother 2 GBA game, but I don't think we'll ever get that....

I`ve always been curious about this game. Can you get the 2nd one on GBA in the US?

Also, which name do you think is better: Earthbound or Mother?

You can buy the game over here, but only off of several websites or ebay, and it's still completely in Japanese language. And I can't read Japanese..... bah.

I don't think I'll ever get myself to the point where I call it Mother all the time. I've been calling it Earthbound since I first played it 6 or 7 years ago. Sometimes I have to clarify things about the game, though, and end up calling it Mother. On a side note, there isn't really an official American name for Mother one. Some people call it Earthbound Zero, but I don't think I'd ever be able to call it that. Just goes to show how people can get set in their ways...
I guess what I'm trying to say is either one works for me.

I have played the Earthbound prototype for the NES (rom, of course) and I loved it. It didn't have the same translation staff, so it wasn't funny like the SNES version was, but this strangely more serious Earthbound, combined with familiar songs that actually sounded BETTER on the NES than the updated versions on the SNES, was a really fun game. It actually has 3 of the 4 characters from the SNES game, and a character that never came back (though he looks oddly like the gang leader kid in Onette in the SNES game) and, unlike the SNES game, there is actually a bit of romance between Ness and Paula. They share a dance in the game!

If Mother 1+2 came out here, a GBA would be the next system I would buy...

I don't think the characters in Mother are intended to be the same as in Mother 2. The way all of them meet makes it seem as if they are all meeting for the first time. Plus, I'm pretty sure the main 2 characters (the Ness and Paula of Mother) are called Ninten and Polyanna.

Nintendo ninten

Nintendo Entertainment System Ness

Paula
Pollyanna

See where I'm going with this? They're the same charachters in a new story, like Link and Zelda and Ganon in the Zelda games...

Ninten was changed to Ness because they refered to the same thing (NES), and Ness could actually be a name. Pollyanna was changed to Paula because they couldn't fit the whole word pollyanna in there...
