PS3: Region Free!

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Fri Mar 24, 2006 10:22 am

According to today's GameFAQs Poll of the Day, The PS3 will be region free ("What do you think of the PlayStation 3's region-free compatibility?") This is certaintly good news for me. What do you guys think? No more buying bootdiscs to play imports!

Whoa. That really is awesome. Now the question is, will it play import PS2 and PS1 games? (I have not heard if it will indeed feature backwards compatibility)

Yeah I have a GBA Love Hina dating Sim ("The Blessing Bell"). I'd be OK with the text if they didn't have this feature where they had a timer and if you didn't respond in time, the girls would beat you up. I read some Japanese, but I read it slow

i read about this, but are developers really going to add 2 to 3 different translations for each game? Seems like alot of trouble to me..

If so, I could finally play Vib Ribbon for the PS1. I've always wanted to play that game.

It's not a matter of needing to read japanese. It's a matter if reading Japanese is essential to the game. In fighting games or like in Ouendan. Knowledge in Japanese is unnecessary. For some parts that require the ability to read, there is gamefaqs.com

I see this as a rumor... Just like the chip that's supposed to keep used games and rentals from being played... Wishfull thinking and scaremongering respectively...

The following post has been MPX42's two cents.Strangly, after every single post he does,he gives two cents to random people. :hits_self

It's reported that 98% of the population has been roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris at least once in their lives. If you're among the 2% that haven't,copy and paste this in your sig.

Gah. Even after the problems with both PS1 and PS2 launches, you guys would want to preorder systems? No thank you. I will wait about 2 months and let all the buggy early ones sell. Every time people rush out, then spend weeks mailing there PS all over the Earth getting it fixed.

Well, I didn't say I would preorder (though I would have if I had a really good job, and wasn't going to school...) I'm aware of the problems with initial release, though... Maybe they're taking this extra time to test them all for serious bugs...

Hopefully your right Bob. But I can't help but think that the first few batches are gonna have wonderful quirks like, needing to put the PS3 upside down for it to work...(buddy of mines PS1 did that)

Now that is wishful thinking that I can wholeheartedly share, especially since Sony did make an announcement confirming the delay of the PS3. I would love it if they were actually trying to make it better instead of attempting to increase demand for the system (classic business practice).

However long it takes, I'll wait for it. That just means that I'll have more time to save up for it. :thumb:

Both my PS1 and my PS2 did that, but only after a few years of ware, they didn't come with that quirk.

I bought a used ps2. I eventually got the dreaded "Disc Read Errors". So I popped open my ps2, fixed it myself. Never had that problem since

Was it the screw thing MSP? I know many people had luck with moving the lazer lense closer. I have never had trouble with any of my PS systems. Then again, I get mine way after the first huge release.

I think sony did this more as a buisness move. Alot of people I know that are involved in modding do it initially so they can play imports without having to use the boot disk every time. This might actually reduce piracy, ironically enough.

About time we get a region free system! If it is indeed true, this will be the first time I don't have to buy two of each system. =D
