Final Fantasy 8 Gaiden: Hoax or Not?

Postby Tommy » Sat Mar 18, 2006 2:26 pm

Rumor has it there was a sequel released in Japan for FF8 or spin-of starring Seifer`s gang.

Here`s the video:

http://www3.telus.net/public/dphan/ff8gaidenbattle.mpeg

In my humble opinion:

That was a nice little movie that some diehard FF fans obviously created.
No different than Chrono Ressurection.

Please, if there was an FF8 sequel it wouldn`t have been made in the same time range.

Edit: It could`ve been some bonus disc in the japanese version of FF8 or something that was basically just a small Seifer spin-off. That is the only theory I can provide in its defense.

I just found that on TFF forums that I am a part of. I had to post this.

EDIT: Fujin`s move missed and yet still destroyed. Further evidence?

With all of the spinoffs they've been doing, it's possible. But unless further evidence is released, I'm not buying it.

While I think an FF8 sequel would be a wonderful turn for the series in general, I doubt they'll make one. FF8 was one of the least popular in Japan, if I remember correctly.

Apparently it was in development, but was never released. So they scrapped the project (Like Mother 3)

If you look closely, youll notice the background music changes. That move never killed them, they just skipped ahead later in the battle when they did die.

Guys, it was obviously a hacked video.

I have ALOT of doubts after seeing this video. I have a small 3rd party program (which allows you to hack into your save games and alter just about ANYTHING). One of the included options was to change your skins. So you could make yourself look like Edea, or Seifer or whom ever you wanted.

Also the fact that the graphics are EXACTLY the same has me doubting.

The music is simple, play a battle without music, and later add the music of your choice. You will hear a small pause between the monsters dying and the victory tune.

I have TONS of doubts about this one.

And BTW, I do not own that. It was a quote from another site.

It is indeed also a possibility that the character skins were changed

Well the graphics being the same doesnt really mean much. It could of been developed a little bit after 8 was released. Just that the Gaiden itself was never released.

BAH, yes! Chrono Break, why won't they make you?! :waah!:

Anyways, even if this thing were real (which I highly doubt), I wouldn't play it. I have no reason to play a game where my LEAST favorite character of the entire FF franchise is the main protagonist.

Squall is so much better. XD

Perhaps such a thing was in development, but I think it far more likely that this is a hoax. Changing your characters' skins isn't all that hard (I understand that you can play as a certain female healer through all of FF7 with the right hacks), so I wouldn't be surprised if someone simply hacked the game to allow this. Besides, FF8 had one of the best RPG endings I've seen (yes, I'm a sucker for that type of thing), and although Squaresoft might have disagreed with me, I really don't see much room for a sequel like this (unlike FF7 or FFX where there was room for a sequel in the storyline).

And if the world were a fair place, Chrono Break would have been made instead of FFX-2, but I guess skimpily dressed females trump tradition (I though Final Fantasy games weren't supposed to have sequels!!!) and writing a sequel to one of the best RPGs ever when you're trying to make money.

Hmm... What was that weird animal thing? I somehow don't remember that... Is that in FFVIII?

Anyhow, yeah, this is a hoax... But, a cool one nonetheless...

And, yes, Chrono Break... Maybe it'll go PS3... I want to see a completion to Schala's story...

Guys, stop refering to it as "Break". Square dropped that name and is going with ?Brake".

Rumor has it, Monolith Soft will be releasing a "hypathetical Chrono sequel" since they were once a division of Squaresoft that developed Xenogears and Chrono Trigger,Cross. As far as may beliefs go, when Square rejected they idea for a Xenogears prequel they joined Namco....

As far as the numerical Final Fantasy series goes, I completely agree. I still think FFT holds the crown so to speak, but that's another topic for another day.

Also, the red/orange lion creatures are called Moombas. I don't remember there being any way to summon them in the game, though. Are they summonable through some kind of item, or is this just another hack?

You cannot summon Moombas in FF8.

I didn't think you could, but I know for a fact that I didn't bother using a bunch of items in that game, plus I don't know if it might have come from Chocobo World or not, so I wasn't completely sure.

Best Final Fantasy on what? The PS1? Or are we talking in general? I liked 8 quite a bit, but I would not say it was the best. Better then 7? Yeah, probably. I liked 10 quite a bit though. And above all other FF's, I adored Tactics.

I honestly think FFT is, as good as it is, completly overrated, but that is a discussion for another day or thread.

I think making a sequel to FF7 would be better because:

A) They would make more money.
B) There were numerous plot holes.
C) FF7 had no ending.

FF8 was perfectly wrapped up. As much as I`d love to see a game that would continue the FF8 universe, I am ashamed to say Square knows they would screw it up like FFX. FFX had a perfect ending and if they countinued FF8....

Then tell me. WHY on earth did you even bring this up? It's like you purposefully try to get on peoples nerves. If ya got an opinon, state it in a more proper place. (Like make a new thread about it) AND Be sure to back up your claim

Like they actually need more. XD

B) There were numerous plot holes.

I actually thought that FF7's ending was perfect. The cinematography, the feeling it left me with when I finished it, the music, the flashes it showed of all of the characters just before the credits rolled...I loved it. And besides, those gaps have already been filled by Advent Children.

I honestly think FFT is, as good as it is, completly overrated, but that is a discussion for another day or thread.

FFT, overrated? XD I barely hear anyone talking about FFT, aside from the few on this site. Even though I've never played it myself (just FFTA), pure common sense tells me that the one that gets the most attention is pretty much the one that's overrated. In that case, FF7 is the one that's overrated. It's one of the most popular Final Fantasy games out there, and they've made so many sequels to it, it's rediculous. Let's count:

FF7: Advent Children
FF7: Before Crisis
FF7: Crisis Core
FF7: Dirge of Cerberus

Four sequels/prequels. The world does not need to be innundated with FF7. XD Let the game rest in peace, I say. *nodnod*

Right, never before have I seen a Tactics movie, a Tactics cellphone game, a Tactics PSP spinoff, and a Tactics 3rd person shooter. (Edit: Even a Tatics snowboarding game!) Even FF6! All it had other than the game itself was a N64 Promo Movie or whatever! The only other Final Fantasy game to have some sort of sequel was Final Fantasy X.

Watch them start making prequels :eyeroll: Not like BC or CC, but like Official RPG prequels... Or some weird alternate character game. Where you play as Zach instead... Haha, it would be called "Final Fantasy 7: Afterlife with Aeris" (Creditz to Radical Dramer on the Afterlife with Aeris thing)
