Dad ran away

Postby Slater » Mon Mar 06, 2006 9:00 pm

My mom and dad were getting along better recently after they started therapy, but my mom got offended that there was another woman in his dojo (watching her kids) and got physical from him. Apparently, when he got home, my mom threw my kubotan (japanese police weapon) at him and my dad dodged injury and said that was the last straw. He broke down the bedroom door to take some things of his and vowed to never return home, telling me and my sister that he was very sorry and that my mom "is sick". As he finished saying these things, without a word, my mom kicked him down the stairs and that's the last I saw of him.

This just happened minutes ago. I believe that my mom is sick in the head for thinking that my dad is committing adultery by allowing a parent into his dojo and for taking such extreme measures, and I don't know what to do.

Wow. I can't imagine what is going on in your mind or with your family, so I will do the only thing I can do: pray. There is a hymn that says:

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

Remember that you aren't on the sinking sand, you're on the rock. To the human eye, it looks like everything is falling apart, but God has everything in His hands. Please let us know what happens with this.

Wow, I don't even know what to say. Bitterness and anger can make people do some slightly out of the ordinary things....

I'll definitely keep you and your family in my prayers. Hang in there, okay?

Hang in there, man. It'll all make sense in the end, even though it doesn't now.

That's pretty rough. I'll pray for you.

My own mother has had mental problems for years now and was often pretty abusive (verbally) to my father. Not so much anymore. I hope that things work out for you.

I'll pray for your family, Slater.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

The display of violence you described I found quite shocking and I can't imagine what it must have been like to witness it firsthand. Frankly, I must say I am concerned for you and your sister's safety, as well as your mothers. If you truly feel your mother is mentally unstable and imagining this affair, I strongly urge you to contact someone and explain the situation. Either a counselor, or a pastor at church. You need to voice your concerns to someone who can intervene on your behalf. I am very sorry this is happening.

Carpe Diem! "Sieze the Day!"

Today is a new day, so take every chance you have to live it. I am sooo very sorry to hear about this; I'm praying that you weren't hurt in the process, right? My parents have been split for at least seven months now. I don't know how it feels to be where you are right now, Slater, but I know how it feels to not know where your father is or how he's doing. Just remember that Christ loves you, has always loved you, and will always love you. There is nothing He will give you which you cannot handle; try to take a smidge of comfort in that. I would like to get updates on this every-so-often, if that's not a problem for you; just so I might know you at least are safe. I'm praying for you, Slater.

Lifting you and your family up in this time. I've been through a divorce as well in my family where domestic abuse was involved, so know that you're not alone. May the peace that only Christ can give reign in your hearts and in this situation.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)
