A very devoted fan...

Postby Chiyocities » Sun Feb 05, 2006 4:51 pm

Recently I've stumbled upon this rather strange and interesting article about a fan of the Little Mermaid. And not just a fan, but a rather devoted one at that...

Disneyaniacs! : An interview with an 'Arielholic'

(Note: It's an old interview, so I think some of you may have already read this.)

It's amazing to see such devotion done purely on an animated character. Though while I'm not really trying to make fun of the guy, with a budget of $20,000 reserved just for Ariel... I guess there are some people who are able to live off with their fandom.

Althought that is kinda of amazing for that much devotion. That hoppy (I'd call it more of an obsession) seems quite unhealthy.

You know, at first I was like "Oh, this guy doesn't seem so bad."

Then I got to the line that said "I've also had trouble meeting women, so Ariel fills a need in me to "have someone." Being affected by Ariel is kind of like "getting" religion."

....O.o Okay. Now...I like Yuki from Fruits Basket. I own a Yuki plushie. I sometimes bring it to school. But to say he fulfils my need to have a boyfriend and gives me a 'religious experience' is just....a little weird. It's almost like he worships Ariel. O.o

I think it's normal to find certain characteristics of a character to be likeable, but to carry it out in this fashion is certainly a little eerie. Though I think I've heard of other cases that are much more extreme than this one.

I think I'll take this for whatever humor value it is worth and not ponder on the state and nature of mankind.

Wow. And I thought I was obsessed with Claudio Sanchez. I mean, I can understand wanting to buy merchandise and all that, but giving up everything else to do so? Nuh uh.

What is more disturbing is not the people who are overly obssessed by these things but the type of jobs some of them may have in real life.

Guess what?
I MET that guy.

I was in line to get on the boat to the Disney Cruise and he had characters that I`ve never seen before. Me nadm y cousin questioned him about it vand he said he was been on over 80 talkshows about it. We shurgged and got on the ship. i`ve only seen him a few times on the ship after that.

That guy was the man, don`t diss him.
