The S.O.S. Youth Ministry is no more

Postby holysoldier5000 » Mon Jan 30, 2006 5:30 am

It is with a heavy heart that I make this prayer request. As some of you know I am the volunteer youth minister and leader of a teen youth group called S.O.S. teen ministries. It has come to my attention that half the teens in the youth group have rejected the teachings of God and my leadership. The group has become divided between those who serve God and those who would serve themselves. Those who would serve themselves are trying to sabotage the S.O.S. ministry causing it to be a place of resentment, anger, and a place that is driving new teen members from the church. Because of these destructive actions the church leaders, and myself, have concluded that the S.O.S. teen ministry be dissolved for the time being. I will continue on as the church's Sunday School leader and I will continue to lead those who wish to devote themselves to God in a small bible study, but the youth group as a whole from this point on is no more. It was my prayer that something like this would not happen again, and this is not the first time this has happened in this church. I for one am personally heartbroken by what has happened and as much as I wish the ministry to continue I realize it is the best decision that it does not continue. Now I just ask for prayer. The situation is out of my hands and in the hands of God now. I ask prayer for the youth in Christ that they will not be pulled down by this sad occasion. I ask prayer for the rebellious youth that they will submit to God’s will. I ask prayer for my church that what is best will be done. And I ask prayer for myself for I am struggling greatly with this decision.

God Bless

Gaaaaah! I'm very sorry to hear this, Ben! :sniffle:

Off course dissolving the teen ministry for now strikes me as the right thing to do, but the fact that it happened is still sad and troubling. I hope that these people can find their way on the right path again. I'll be praying for them, you and your ministry.

Dude, I'm sorry this happened as well. I'll definately be praying for healing and that God would begin a new work with the youth at your church. Oh my goodness... what a shame! I'm sure this will be a very refining time for you and the youth.

that happened to me once. i went to a great youth group..but then everyone else.. just turned it miserable. there was so much talking behind eachothers back, and backstabbing, and just.. being rude overall. so many of us were hurt- including me.

so i know how important this is. ill pray for you, pal! ^^

I'm really sorry to hear this, HS. I just want to let you know that I for one really appreciate what you were trying to do, and to remind you that the Bible says that the Word will not return void. You've planted seeds in the hearts of those rebellious kids, and you never know in what ways they may grow. If God called you to do this, and now he's calling you to stop, then you've obviously accomplished what it was that He wanted you to do. And you never know what that may be, but it had to have been something that God had, and still has, a plan for-- for those kids and for you. I know how discouraging it can be when you make such an effort just to see it all crumble around you, but know that you've done what you could, and now the rest is up to God (as it always has been.) So thank you so much for what you did accomplish. The youth in this nation need it desperately, and I'm sure that none of it was in vain. I'll pray for your church that all the leaders will have wisdom in making these descisions, and that those that you taught who believe in God would be stronger than ever, and not pulled away by the rebellious ones. And I'll pray for you that you will be at rest with what God decides is best. :thumb:
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

It breaks my heart to hear that. Your heart for God comes through so much on-line and I have always found you to be such an encouragement. I pray for the rebellious teens and for your church.

Wow that's a very disheartening thing to see indeed... It's a shame it had to come to that and that the group couldn't be salvaged. I pray God changes the hearts of the ones bringing it down and that everyone can move on peacefully.

>_> Gosh Ben, that's definately not good.

I do see some hope though. Your small bible study group you are having, why cannot that evolve into something bigger? And greater? Like S.O.S. 2.0 or something. (hehe) You see, the bible study will have people who WANT to be in it, and who want to strengthen in the word. And if more youths join htat, you can create something new. Keep looking up, not down ^_^ I'm praying for you and your church

Wow. I will be praying. God still has plans for the youth at your church, and I think you are still part of those plans. As my pastor would say, God gives you dreams that you can't fulfill so that he can be glorified when the dreams come true. God has not let go lf his hold on the teens in your church, and he may use someone or something totally unexpected to bring a revival to the youth of your church. I'm sure this situation is completely and utterly discouraging, but this is not the end. God will bring someone up to help you complete what was started, even if it doesn't happen right now. Have patience and don't stop praying for the teens in you church. They need your prayers now more than ever.

Sorry to hear about the youth group breakup Ben. We had something similar happen back in 2004 and there was no youth group for the kids in term 3 and 4 of that year. It hurt really bad knowing the kid's needed it and that being a youth leader was a calling from God and it wasn't working out so great.

But you have to trust that God will bring good about from this. God can do anything. Beginning of 2005 we started the youth group again and besides a few naughty kids there weren't any 'disturbances.' That would not have been possible without God.

I hear you are starting a study group and that's really good. That's somewhere to begin. Keep focusing on helping to build those kids in their faith (and have fun) and God will do the rest.
(Writing this I hope to encourage you, but it also reassures me of God's Love)

I'll be praying for you and the kids.
Wish you the best for your future ministry.

God Bless,

Christian

You know, I've had a student christian fellowship dissolved before and believe God allowed it for everyone's good. So take faith. God is always in control in anything. To tell the truth, I was considered the "unteachable/rebellious ones" so feel free to PM me for the details.

Meanwhile, I'll pray for everyone to move on and to let God raise them up after this event.

Wow Ben, im really sorry. But, God has His reasons for allowing things to happen, even if we don't understand why. I'll be praying.

It is good to know that you are starting a bible study though ^-^

Sorry to hear that, man. I have to say there are some things in that ministry that i don't agree with, but it's still not reason enough to get all angry about. I think ya' made the right choice. Oh, and there's something i'd like to ask you. What is the name of this church? 'cuz mine is doing S.O.S. right now, too. Just wondering. But, yeah, you'll be in my prayers, dude.
