CD Scratch Removal Techniques

Post your personal CD scratch removal techniques here. The reason for this thread is that hopefully there's a way to fix my Super Smash Bros. Melee disc from loan scars(I learned a very important lesson because of that experience). Hopefully, something posted here will help. Thanks!

ussaly I just ask a friend to fix it on his game doctor (which ussaly brings fourth more loan scars ^^)

or just put in a boul of hot water! that fixes thimgs!

Ooh, a game disc scratch ... that's not cool. Short of bringing it into your local Game Stop or eb and asking if they can do anything - I don't know of any tried and true methods to help out. Sorry!

Gyspy: Sorry about putting it in the wrong place, I kinda wasn't thinking heh. About bringing it to a store, have you or someone you know done that? All in all, I blame myself for letting the situation become what it became. I shall explain: At my brother's school there was a new kid. He offered to trade-borrow TLOZ:Wind Waker for my SSBM with my brother. Him being new and thus not entirely trustable should've been a red flag in itself. Anyway, I let him trade-borrow only to get a Sonic Adventure 2:Battle game that DIDN'T work. I then asked my brother to get back SSBM ASAP. By the time I did get it back days later, I played it to make sure it was good only to get a "Game Disc could not be read" error when selecting a certain player. Questions to the kid in question yielded nothing and it left me with a disc with a lot of characters that are now non-playable. Like I said earlier, I learned a good lesson from that experience.

Maybe this would help. I would recommend using the sodium toothpaste.

I've tried that but it didn't really help me much. I think I'll resort to buying a commercial cleaning thing or find a place close to me that professionally restores CDs and discs.

i heard using a tooth brush and baking soda toothpaste is good to try

I bought one of the grinder wheels (sold under various names like GameRx, CDRx, etc.), and it works reasonably well, although it takes time to sit there and grind the CD down, and then try it, and grind and buff it again, and try it, and ...

However, I've rescued a Dreamcast disc and an audio CD with it, so it works. It's a little pricey at around $30, but it does perform as advertised.

No, I've never known anyone to do that - but that's what I'd attempt if I was in your shoes. Worse that could happen would be they say no and try to sell you a repair kit - which would be your next step anyway. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

my cousin used one of his hair sprays that makes those white foam. he says it works wonders, on light scratches.

if it's one of those really deep ones, then i can't help you then.

If only you were here to see the way i handle them when i take them out. LOL the only thing i'm missing are the gloves and dust free lab room.

But seriously, I'm really careful when it comes to discs. My current disc situation came out of bad thinking. I'll look into GameXchange. Thanks for the help.
