I need help with my pop

Postby KA1-EG13 » Sun Jan 22, 2006 7:03 pm

A little while ago before I went to church my dad asked me from across the dinner table if I was happy, probably because I am always so quiet. I answered yes and said that I was just being quiet cause Its part of my nature. Then I asked if he was happy and he answered no. He explained that he felt that something was missing and that it was probably because he didn't have an old woman in his life.

Well I knew better than that and told him that the thing missin in his life was Jesus, but he replied disgruntled that he already went through that when he was my age and that he accepted Jesus long time ago and that it had to be something else.

I don't mean to judge but hearing this coming from a man that curses and uses God's name in vain everyday, shares very few christian values, has a grumpy disposistion of a grizzly, and probably hasn't opened a bible since he was 16 I found this very difficult to believe

I tried to debate with him, but he still remained adamant that he accepted Jesus. His justificactions were that he believed that thier was a higher power and such, but these things really don't prove anything.

I talked to the guest pastor at my church about it and he explained to me that if he is a christian he has severly severly strayed from the path and hardened his heart for a long time, and that he needs Jesus active in his life wether he is a true believer or not.

So I'm asking for whomever is willing to pray that my dad will come to God so Jesus can fill the void in his life.

It would be very much appreciated.

I know that's a hard thing, and it can be frustrating. (particularly if you're the quiet type like me) I guess the best piece of advice I can give is this: 1. Keep praying. 2. Keep believing that your prayers are being answered. 3. Keep loving him anyway.

Sorry if that's not much help. But I will keep praying and believing for you. :)

Hey I'll pray about this.

Just keep on loving your dad the way you are. Try not to debate with him, it may make things harder. I hope your love will get him thinking about Jesus again.

I will be praying for your father and maybe this might help... What if you reminded your father about who Jesus is and what Jesus can be to him... Jesus can be his friend:

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.
Live your life, love the Lord, and don't forget to laugh...

:) Thanks for the prayers. I really do appreciate your support. My Dad may be a bit of a crank, but so long as his heart is still beating then there is a chance for him.

That's really true. I'll be praying for him to come to Jesus and that he would come to know that he's accepted and befriended by him. It can be discouraging to be single at times, but Jesus even comforts us in that need.

I'll pray for your dad. And you're right-- it's never too late so long as he's living. My uncle, who is 45 now, was a complete agnostic up until just recently and has now done a 180, it's really amazing. Believe me, if it can happen to my uncle, it can happen for your dad. Just keep being there for him :)
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Sounds like he's said the prayer but never actually accepted the gift of salvation. (i could be wrong, and I hope I am) otherwise, he has really strayed a bit. I'll pray for him.

Thats pretty much what I expected. You see the story he told me was that when he was a boy, his mom took him to church all the time and he didn't like that very much. One day he saw the preacher however being a little too frisky with the organ player (if you know what i mean) and he decided in his heart that he really didn't want anything to do with church people from then on. He has been like that his whole life.

One bad apple spoils the bunch, as they say.

Finding positive examples of people and work within the Church, along with prayers for him to see such examples on his own, may help.

I'll pray for this end as well.
