Favorite Super Smash Bros Melee character

Postby jon_jinn » Fri Jan 20, 2006 5:17 pm

Yes. I'm a very big fan of Super Smash Bros Melee. I, myself believe that this is one of the best multiplayer games out there. So, like I said in the title, who's your favorite SSBM character(s)?
Mine are:
1st Marth: Awesome allrounded character. Longest sword and most range in game, pretty fast, strong ground and aerial attacks, very good edge guarder, very good recovery, and one of the best spikes in the game.
2nd Shiek: One of the best characters all the way. Super fast (3rd), good ground moves and a killer forward aerial, pretty good recovery, and excellent projectile (darts).
3rd Peach: Very strong character if you know how to use her. Not very fast but decent, can float, one of the best recoveries (horizontally), good aerials and ground moves, one of the most annoying characters out there (vegetables!!)
4th Falco: Fast, strong, cool, and the master of spiking. That's right, falco's spike (down aerial) is what he's most famous for, super cheap gun SHFFL tactic, surprising side b spike, fast, good aerials and super crazy side smash!!
5th Roy: Marth's supposed double...YEAH RIGHT!! fire: yes, range: no, speed: kinda, edge guarding: superb, ground attack strength: INCREDIBLE!!!, aerial strength: none (except neutral aerial). Yes. Roy may be one of the more bad characters out there but he was one of the very first character I used and I'm sticking with him.

So...what are your favorites?

I know for a fact that there has to be at least 1 other thread out there adressing this topic
http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=11410&highlight=super+smash
Here, I'm not sure this thread is completely necessary. You probably didn't know the other thread was there though.

Oh, and I use Dr. Mario, Young Link, Jigglypuff and Pichu about equally.

Gosh I haven't played Smash in sooooo long...(probably because my nephew never gave it back!) Um... I like sword fighters the most.
Roy (power) and Marth (speed) were used alot, followed by Link for his all around merits. I also liked using Samus and Peach. Ah Peach! It didn't get better than wacking someone off the edge with a frying pan and then sayin' "Sweet!!" That's about it...occasionally pikachu or Fox. I always wanted to like Ness for his sheer unusuallness, but I was never good with him.

Oh, yeah I do remember an old thread on this topic too. It's probably super buried by now....

Sorry. I didn't know there was another thread. Is it still okay if we use this thread anyways?

Marth is the most broken character in the game...Can't wait until Revolution so he gets the nuke he deserves.

Anyways, Roy is my main man. His counter is extremely deadly, sending 150% of the attack he counters back at the opponent, where as Marth's deals a measly 7%. Sure, Marth has the range and speed advantage, but put Roy in the hands of someone who knows how to play a good mind game and you can dominate.

I imagine the old thread is pretty buried, yeah. I think this thread if fine though.

Roy is good, yes, but he is so annoying in the hands of a button masher. My friend Logan just jams the C-stick. Now THAT is frustrating

Bah, the C-Stick is useful, but not THAT useful. You've got to make use of his Sword Dance, which actually has a pretty nice meteor attack on one of the down+B slashes. Also, his normal B charge can be devestating if used correctly, going from a counter into a quick B tap, then into a charged B if the opponent decides to try and come back at you has worked quite well for me.

Also, I just have to mention this. While Roy is my favorite to use regularly, I LOVE using Ness on an occasional basis, he's just too awesome to pass up using.

My favorite was Jigglypuff, but I was probably best with Pikachu or Zelda.
I started playing Jigglypuff because I thought it would be funny and a bit annoying ;), then actually got pretty good with her/him/it. When my brother started playing the game nonstop, I had to revert back if I wanted to stand a chance.

Hmm... I dunno which tops my list, so I'll just list some different ones:

-Ganondorf - he may a tad slow, but work him right and his attacks are amazingly FIERCE. Many of his attacks work well in mid-air as well, but you REALLY have to know how to use them if you want any effect from it (otherwise you'll just leave yourself open alot).

-Roy - Every reason Blahblahblah said.

-Kirby - he sucks. No, I mean it. He sucks BIG TIME. Which is exactly what makes him so great. I don't worry about his copying abilities, I just suck with him and try to put the enemies at an advantage while mixing in a good bit of Down + B crashing (especially when the opponents are in groups).

-Pichu - okay, this is more for the fact that I get to beat the crap out of people with a cute lil' electric mouse than for him being actually useful (plus, to disprove the belief that he's "no good"). I typically use his speed to take over the items and stick with throws instead of direct hits (as they cause damage to himself).
**And just on a side note, I always play him with the blue goggle suit... what? >_>

I fight best with Fox or Shiek, but if the game didn't have projectiles or if Roy had any he would be one of my better fighters. Still I think with thier speed, long range ability, and strength Fox and Shiek if used correctly are the best pure fighters. But Super Smash Bros Melee allows for you to develop specific strategies for different characters.
Because of this I have been beaten by a host of characters who my friends have developed stratigies for. What I like to do though is sit down and just have a good old fashion fight. No speshle strategies or what not. And if your going to do that, Fox or Shiek are the only ways to go.

Notice that Fox and Falco are the exact same except for a small difference in there laser gun. Wich ever laser gun you prefer go with that character. Each gun is good
for different situations.

Well, I'll have to disagree on you with fox and falco being the same except for the gun. If you try both of their down aerials, you'll notice that falco's is a way stronger and more effective spike. also, fox's strongest smash is his up smash while falco's is his side. fox is a little bit faster and his side B and up B travel way more than falco's. fox's reflector sends the opponent flying more horrizontally while falco's sends the opponent flying vertically and fox's throws are somewhat different in terms of sending the opponent flying a certain angle as well as power and knockback. I could go on forever...

XD well, when me and my friend play, I used Dr. Mario and he uses Roy and we play on a team and Dr. Mario's throw is quite powerful so he uses Roy's B charge attack and right when it gets to the most powerful point I grab one of the other guys and throw him towards Roy so he can slam him. XD It works almost every time.
Oh yeah and I agree with Myoti about Pichu. Pichu's speed is a great advantage.

My friend is not deadly with Link. >.<

Be basically manages to use Link's projectile attacks that you have next to NO recovery time while fighting him. Urgh!

I did manage to get him one time, and that was a 3-way match, I believe... -_-

Anyone here like to use captain Falcon? His forward aerial's so deadly, I call it the "Knee of Doom". It's so fun to use.

Roy and Marth are the two best players, especially in the hands of an expert player... (when my brother and his friends play, the game consists mostly of them circling each other, probing the defenses, until he does a crazy series of attacks that basically takes out the opponent... i don't know how, i just know that to survive my bro you have to dodge like crazy...)

He could be in the next one, since Nintendo owns the right to Sonic.

Since when?

Sonic does and always has belonged to Sega. Shadow the Hedgehog being on all three consoles should be proof it doesn't belong to Nintendo.

Yep. Roy and Marth rule. I myself, think I'm pretty good with both. Have you seen Ken's Marth movies? They're really good. Especially when he plays Isai.

Ugh...I said that completely wrong.

I meant Nintendo could ask permission to use Sonic since most of the games he has been in starting in 2000 were specifically for Nintendo systems.

I will go edit that careless post. Aplologies.

Kirby. Never played the game, but I got to watch, and Kirby was hilarious. He just doesn't seem to die, and he can eat other players. And his sharp teeth atone for (and make cooler) the fact that he's a cute pink.... thing.

Seems like Yoshi was pretty cool, too. Couldn't you swallow enemies, then "poop" them off the edge in egg form?
