Guilty Musical Pleasures

Postby Steeltemplar » Thu Jan 19, 2006 7:54 am

Is there anything in your music collection that you like or even love which you would consider a "guilty pleasure"? Something completely out of character for you or that would be considered embarassing?

I'll give you an example in my collection.

I really like Aqua.

That's right. The ones who came out with such sugary-sweet euro-pop hits as "Barbie Girl" and "Doctor Jones". But they're just so catchy! So there they are in my collection alongside my Megadeth, Rob Zombie, Children of Bodom, and Napalm Death. (Note to the content-minded: Aqua does have some racey lyrics, as do pretty much all of the bands I just listed. lol.)

Even though Crazy Town got a major bad image for the song 'Butterfly', I still think Crazy Town rocks, and I've always been sad that they broke up.

Note: Crazy Town also has racey lyrics.

I. Like. Green. Day.
Not all of their stuff, mind you. But some of their songs...I find very catchy.

Well...I like Kelly Clarkson...At least the few songs of hers that I've heard. I like some other ones but that has got to be the most embarrassing I can think of right now. I think I'll go listen to some Norma Jean or MxPx now.

Have you seen the movie where they go around the world in a race against the Chipettes? That was great. And they did the Boys/Girls of Rock and Roll song in the Greek ruins.

Wow, I loved that movie when I was younger. Still a classic.

Even as a professed lover of harder stuff (not to be confused with metal, however), I still enjoy contemporary. *coughs and prepares to be lynched* Michael W Smith, Avalon, David Meece, Scott Krippayne(sp), etc.

I'm TERRIBLY ashamed to admit that I love Relient K. I just do. I've been listening to them for so long that I can't stop. I realize that the majority of their fanbase is like 14 year old girls, but I do love Relient K. They write fun, catchy songs that sometimes have a good message.

I used to like them until they started that "I hate Bush" stuff on their American Idiot album. They were only doing it to fit in, I'm pretty sure. Now as for me, I guess my guilty pleasure would be Enya, Melissa Etheridge, and AC/DC (note: AC/DC has borderline racy lyrics).

Eclectic tastes should be embrased, not a source of guilt.

...though I do feel a little funny if I catch myself humming "Dancing Queen"

I generally don't feel guilty about the music in my library, but I suppose I am slightly embarrassed of some of my anime music that has high, energetic female vocals, like "Unerasable Sin" from FMA.

There are also some bands or songs that I like and listen to even though I realize that they aren't the best that the musical world has to offer, but that's a different matter; I wouldn't say that they are guilty pleasures.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

Yes! That's exactly right. I *love* older Green Day, but I can't stand their new stuff. I'd take 1039 over American Idiot any day. *goes to listen to '409 In Your Coffee Maker'*
