People get "Hardcore" and "Casual" confused.

Gray area. They're legal if you own the original cartridge. They're also legal for 24 hours after you download them if you don't own the original cartridge.

Yep technically. Most of it is just freely distributed over the internet anyway not like pirates selling bootleg copies. And it's not like Nintendo, Sega, or what have you are making money anymore off of Super Nintendo and Genesis for example. Those companies aren't going to waste money hiring lawyers to attack kids playing Super Mario RPG off of ZSNESX on their PC's.

Ah...I remember using those plenty. They were fun for a while...I still havn't completed FF3 however. ARG!

I've nearly played that game completely through about 4 to 5 times, but have never ever actualy completed it...sad, no?

Emulators are never illegal

With roms, you have to own the original cart, then with outdated systems (like N64) you can hack them, translate them, do whatever you want with them as long as you own the original cart.

There are also public domain roms... Games who's copyrights have expired, or they are free to trade freely... There are a few of those out there...

So I can play Super Mario World, Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2), umiharakawase, Donkey Kong Country 2, Jurassic Park, Super Mario 3, Rygar, Tetris, Ninja Turtles, and such on emulators, as well as level hacks, graphical hacks, translations and spoofs, etc... all I want, and it's perfectly legal... I own all of those physically...

I think as a cost effective alternative to the rich hardcore player, someone who seeks out hacks, and plays them to win... Some of those hacks are really challenging, yet still beatable... I don't think hardcore status should be about how much you can buy...

yes, exactly. And what is the reasoning behind roms? Well, I found out after I damaged my Super Mario RPG cart... they're legal backups.

Legal backups, or for hacking. You should some of the "challenge edition" hacks for super mario world...

Does anyone here get Game Informer? If so, I think if a lot of you read the latest issue you would bust a gut laughing. Go to the section where the GI staff replys to letters and you will find a letter from a 70 year old gamer bashing a kid who (in a former letter) was criticising people who called them selfs gamers and weren't hard core. Funny stuff, man, funny stuff.

As for me, I will get ps3 because I like RPG's better than most genre's, and PS2 seems to put out some of the best RPG's. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, etc. Graphics are a big part of gaming for me, but at the same time I would rather have solid gaming then great graphics. Now allow me to go cuddle my Fire Emblem game, which since it's on a gameboy it does not have stunning graphics.

GamiInformer's pretty cool. I cut out a picture featuring Advent Children and tacked it to my wall.

I think when a person buys both a Revo and a PS3 and only plays games with awsome graphics and gameplay or neither of the two the world will come to an end. XD
