Wild ARMs 5 ALREADY?!

Postby Tommy » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:22 pm

That`s right guys, Wild Arms 5 is in developement.

I really think the people who make Wild Arms need to take a deep breath. They are seriously rushing their games.

Wild Arms 4 is coming out in two days and now we JUST find out there will be a 5th game.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/wildarmsthevthvanguard/news.html?sid=6142033&mode=recent

This game will mainly celebrate the fact the series is now 10 years old. Japanese release will definately be in 2006, but the state release is unknown.

Oh, okay. Well, I mean as far as America goes. I`d expect an early 2007 release for the US in that case.

I saw the anime and it`s pretty good, but the storyline in the games are better.

Yeah, the anime of Wild ARMs was pretty...eh.

As far as the release date, you're probably right. I wouldn't expect to see WA5 any earlier than 2007 for us, depending on who licenses it.

Speaking of which, I wonder who will pick up the rights to this one? XSeed is the one who got WA4, so I wonder if they'll pick up on five, or if someone new will come into the arena.

Squenix doesn't license games. They make 'em. o.o

There are companies that make games and companies that license them. Media Vision and Square-Enix are companies that make games. Working Designs (while they were still around, may they rest in peace) and Agetec are companies that license games for release in America.

Square-Enix licences games they don`t make them all.
Grandia III, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, and many others are games that Square-Enix published and never made.

No, you're mistaken. Square-Enix DOES produce games. Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts are examples of games that are MADE by Square.

You are confusing publishing with licensing.

Level Five produced Dragon Quest 8. Square-Enix of Japan published it. Square-Enix of America licensed it.

Media Vision produced Wild ARMs 4. Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan published it. XSeed licensed it.

Licensing is translating and recoding a game for release in another country. Publishing is preparing and issuing a game for sale. Square-Enix of America is the only company that licenses Square-Enix games from Japan, since it is a department of the same company. Therefore, it would never license Wild ARMs because Wild ARMs is not produced or published by Square-Enix of Japan.

For games like this, it falls on smaller American companies to license it, because Sony Computer Entertainment of America has no interest in releasing Wild ARMs games. That is why Prokion, Agetec, and XSeed are the companies that have released Wild ARMs games in the past in America.

Yes, they're very good, in my opinion, in fact, they're my favorite RPG series. I give the games the following scores:

Wild ARMs - 8/10
Wild ARMs 2nd Ignition - 6/10
Wild ARMs Advanced 3rd - 7/10
Wild ARMs Alter Code F - 7.5/10

4th Detonator comes out sometime this month.

Could you mean Wild Arms: Alter Code F?
The one with the original characters?

No. That's Alter Code F. Tom is talking about Wild ARMs 5, which I think is being called Wild ARMs The Vth Vanguard. Not much is known about it so far, except for a preliminary sketch of what could be the main character.

No, Nate, you are wrong.

Enix has always made Dragon Quest VIII. Level 5 is a company thta developed the graphics for games. Dark Cloud 1 and 2 are examples.
Square-Enix made Dragon Quest VIII.

Note that I said, they don`t make ALL their games.
I`m aware Square makes FF games, Xenogears, Chrono, ect. but they also publish games by Tri-Ace and others.

To conclude, Dragon Quest vIII was MADE by Square-Enix and that is official. Don`t you remember? Square and Enix used to compete in game making with Draagon Quest and FF. Level 5 just gave the game it`s graphic design known from Dark Cloud games.

Anyways, the game will be called Wild Arms 5 in the Us. Why?

Japan- Wild Arms: 2nd Ignition
America- Wild Arms 2

Japan- Wild Arms: Advanced 3rd
America- Wild Arms

Japan- Wild Arms: The 4th Denator
America- Wild Arms 4

so the following would make sense:

Japan- Wild Arms: The Vth Vanguard
America- Wild Arms 5

But they could make an exception since, bringing back Dragon Quest VIII, the games were called Dragon Quest in Japan and Dragon Warrior in America until the VIIIth one, then they changed it so you never know.

EDIT: I understnad what you mean by the difference of Licensing and Publishiong being two different things like Square Enix publishing Star Ocean and Grandia III.

All I know is according to rpgamer, the Developer is Level 5 and the publisher is Square-Enix of Japan.

Speaking of which, I also see something about Dragon Quest Yangus...I wonder what's up with that. Oh well, wrong thread.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll just be called Wild ARMs 5 here in America. I think the problem is that since Wild ARMs 4 is coming out, he thinks Alter Code F is 5, which it isn't.

Speaking of which, I went to the Wild ARMs 4 website for the US release.

BLAH.

I don't mind the song being put in English, but...PLEASE, XSeed, GET SOMEONE WHO CAN SING. The woman singing the opening song for the English version SUCKS. And I mean, sucks HARD.

I also heard the voice acting for Wild ARMs 4 from the previews. It sucks... ><

Well...hopefully there's an option to turn off the voices...and I guess I'll just skip the opening movie whenever I play the game...even though the opening movie is ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE BEST ABOUT THE WILD ARMS GAMES. And XSeed had to RUIN it. GAH.

Well, um RPGamer is wrong.
Don`t you remember that Squareosft and Enix always competed in the NES/SNES days? How could Enix compete if Level 5 makes it? Level 5 just developed the graphics.

Anyways, I am dissapointed at MediaVision. They were always out of the woods not using VA and now this...ugh.

Oh, so IGN is wrong too. And Gamespot. Basically, EVERY GAMING SITE AND MAGAZINE is wrong except you.

Wow. Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't understand this statement. Level 5 didn't exist until the year 2000, long after Squaresoft and Enix's rivalry of the NES/SNES days. What bearing does this have on the fact that they produced the game?

Anyways, I am dissapointed at MediaVision. They were always out of the woods not using VA and now this...ugh.

Wild ARMs Alter Code F had voice actors, what are you talking about? And it's not Media Vision's fault that XSeed hired crappy actors, so don't blame them for it.

Alter Code F had voice actors.......I must have picked up the "mute" edition.

And Kaemmerite, you have proved my point.
If Level 5 never existed until 2000, then how could they have made the DQ series?

Okay, fine, maybe Enix handed the most popular RPG, no, Video game series, to some random company that only developes graphics for Dark Cloud games. If that`s the case, Enix just gave their most prized series away.

Oh, so when a company licences a game that means that they choose voice actors. Oh, okay.

Okay, I apologize for doubleposting but I viewed the official website and this game looks sick. The girl singing sounded just fine, kaemmerite. Would you like to sing for the game instead? I have hears much worse-sounding songs.

Now, the voice acting. I definately second you on that one. The main character is 13, not 5! I was just 13, 2 years ago and my voice sounded way older than that. And one of his dialogues sounds so corny.
I can say that other guy in the team has a good VA though.

Yeah, the voice actors were cut out of the American version. Licensing issues.

They didn't make the SERIES. They made Dragon Quest 8.

I give up. You clearly don't understand how the gaming industry works, and I'm tired of arguing.

No, unlike her, I'm aware that I can't sing well. And yes, I've heard worse sounding songs, but I've also heard WAY better ones.

Okay, fine. It's not just the gaming industry, mind you, it's any creation.

When you own the rights to something, you can give legal permission to others to utilize your work. If I create a cartoon character named "Mr. Putter" and copyright it, then legally, no one is allowed to draw Mr. Putter unless I say they can.

However, if I go up to ChristianRonin and say, "Kitchan, I am giving you permission to draw a cartoon using Mr. Putter," then she has the legal rights to use Mr. Putter how she chooses, provided that she adhere to my guidelines.

This happens all the time, such as when Nintendo allowed Squaresoft to make Super Mario RPG. The characters were owned by Nintendo, but Squaresoft was the one who produced the game with Nintendo's permission.

Why do you think Chrono Ressurection, the fan based remake of Chrono Trigger was shut down? It was because Squaresoft had not given them legal permission to use their characters, so it was against the law.

The biggest example of licensing problems, though, was back in the days of the Phillips CD-i. In 1989, Nintendo signed a deal with Sony to begin development of a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Famicom ("The SNES PlayStation"). However, Nintendo suddenly broke the contract and signed with Philips in the early 1990s (This later lead to the development of the Sony PlayStation). The CD-ROM add-on was later dropped, but Nintendo had licensed the rights to Philips to use some of its characters, including Link, Zelda, and Ganon. This was done in hopes of gaining Philips as a partner on the way to making a compact disc-based console. Philips used the characters to create three CD-i games.

Phillips did not own the characters from the Zelda series, but they made three Zelda games because they had licensing rights AT THE TIME. However, the time period of the agreement is over, and if Philips tried to make a Zelda game now, they would be sued, because they no longer have the legal rights.

The same situation happened with Level 5. Enix licensed out the series to them for a brief period of time so they could make Dragon Quest VIII, but those rights do not last forever, and it does not mean that Enix no longer owns it. Nintendo still owns Zelda, after all.

Oh, alright.

Well, apparantly Level 5 did an excellent job. I heard the best Dragon Quest game was the Vth one. They made a PS2 remake, but it never made the states. the SNES cartridge for DQV never made the states either. :(

I heard all about that PS1 was supposed to be a CD add-on to Nintendo. Funny, how it turned out.

Um, back on topic.....
