Recent Naruto Manga (Chapters 400+)

Post about anime's sister, manga in here. Manga reviews accepted in here as well.

I read it last night. Yeah, Sai's fixation is completely inappropriate for a Weekly Jump series, not to mention really annoying. It had better stop soon, or there had better be a super good secret reason behind it (though I sure can't think of any.)

Erm...I don't think we have to spoilerize here; people come expecting spoilers, so we don't have to do so unless alluding to the end of another series or something. At any rate, I don't, but if that bothers anyone, please do say so.

I'm guessing the hooded guy is the aforemention spy? At least, that's what I assumed, but I didn't question it. Hm... What if it's Sasuke??

That jutsu was great. xD

This would be universally hated, but wouldn't it be funny if Sai was actually Sasuke? I realize there is essentially zero chance of this, but it does seem odd that an entirely new character is brought in at random and that they have actually compared the two within the manga.

Myoti wrote:Finally managed to get caught up, and yeah, I dislike Sai as well (is it just me, or does appear to have some fascination with... um, you know? O_o ).

Two words: yaoi fanservice.

Myoti wrote:Yay! Gaara didn't die! And he can still control sand

I really hope the manga explores his feelings now that he has abruptly lost a massive amount of his power. His style was based on extremely impressive defenses that he no longer has.

Aka-chan wrote:I don't think it's a good idea to reinvent the cast in the middle of a series. For instance, will the spy end up being someone we already know?

I agree, and I hope he takes that route.

Yeito wrote:And who is the randomly hooded figure? o_O

No idea, but it is a rather nice cloak.

I would LOVE it if Sai were Sasuke. That would be beautiful and hilarious, and I don't care for either, so it would make not difference to me.

Ugh, yaoi fanservice...a sure way to ruin something good.

I'm fairly indifferent on Sai at this point. I don't particularly like him, but I can't say I really dislike him either.
I am more curious of his orders and the motives of Danzou and "Root" however. It would be interesting if Naruto, Sakura, and company not only faced enemies from Akatsuki and the Sound, but from within the Leaf as well.

I'm guessing the hooded guy is the aforemention spy? At least, that's what I assumed, but I didn't question it. Hm... What if it's Sasuke??

I suppose it's possible but I rather doubt it. Given how Sasuke has acted in the past, I seriously doubt that he would be able to successfully infiltrate the organization of his sworn enemy even with three years of training.
The only known character that really makes sense in my mind would be Kabuto. He has already proved to be an excellent spy after all. Otherwise, this spy would very well be someone new.

But the second plane is looking at this arc overall. I must admit that I am slightly worried about Naruto (the series, not the character). Many of the elements are being introduced for the first time, not naturally arising from the plot that has come before. That causes me to fear that this really hasn't been planned out and is being written one arc at a time. This fear was augmented when he took a week off for planning after the recent Akatsuki fight.

The other Jump manga-kas also take week-long breaks from time-to-time so I don't know if I would make too much of that one but you do make a decent point. I am a bit surprised that so many new elements and characters are introduced so quickly.
I would think that he would have done at least some planning though. Otherwise, the story runs the risk of wandering around and going nowhere. At any rate, I guess we will see.

Other comments:

-The other rookies + Gai's team: I would like to see more of them, considering that they have had three years to improve their techniques, and we haven't really seen much action on their part since the Sound chase and/or the Chuunin Exams.

-The bijuu:
I find this aspect interesting and it could determine the direction of Naruto. I'm wondering if Kishimoto will introduce other Jinchuriki. We know that three bijuu(including Shukaku) are now in the hands of Akatsuki. That means that there is possibly five others walking around out there.

I'm spoilerizing this, since it might be a little inappropriate, but:
I think it was more to do his "do you even have balls" comment, and how he doesn't know how to really react or treat people (thus his fascination with smiling all the time). Though I'm surprised Japanese had a term like that. O_o
Right now, I'm primarily wondering when or how the main generation will receive another boost in power (surely not another time jump). At the moment they aren't capable of fighting Akatsuki or the other major villains without aid, and we can probably assume Naruto will end up fighting one of the most powerful opponents.

Aka-chan wrote:I would LOVE it if Sai were Sasuke.

Ah, I forgot about the crowd that dislikes Sasuke. So some would find it humorous with me.

Good observation]The other Jump manga-kas also take week-long breaks from time-to-time so I don't know if I would make too much of that one but you do make a decent point.
If not for other things, I probably wouldn't have made much of it as well. And it is still just a lingering fear; we'll have to see what happens after this arc. I really hope the plot starts becoming complex: we have enough players for things to get complicated, but they aren't being used.

MasterDias wrote:The other rookies + Gai's team: I would like to see more of them, considering that they have had three years to improve their techniques, and we haven't really seen much action on their part since the Sound chase and/or the Chuunin Exams.

While I want to see everyone again as well, I wonder slightly that there are so many introductions so quickly and that each one gets a full page panel. This is another aspect that adds to my worry.

Concerning Myoti's spoiler: The fact is, I've seen that same line translated in a completely clean manner, as well as referencing other parts of the male anatomy (I checked around, wondering what Sai really said). We can assume there were translation liberties taken.

I could always try checking a RAW and trying a translation myself (I have some Japanese skills, limited, but there). If someone knows where to get one, PM me.

About the most recent chapter...

Who DIDN'T expect it to be Kabuto, really? :P

Heh. My guess was right.

I wasn't expecting Orochimaru to be close by however.

Yes, I found it interesting that you predicted correctly so early. However, I wonder if Kabuto doesn't realize more than he is letting on, or if Orochimaru isn't manipulating this more than it might first appear. How much do we really know about Kabuto's work as a spy? Not much, I believe, so that leaves open plenty of options.

This chapter had a strong ending, so frankly the hype-text irked me. It doesn't help.

The thought crossed my mind too actually. Is Kabuto really as clueless about the situation as he appears? He has proven quite resourceful in the past and his true loyalties can be called into question, even moreso after this last chapter.

I have two alternate theories on Kabuto I'm running simultaneously. One is that he's an opportunist who is just interested in coming out of this well. The other is that he is loyal to Orochimaru completely (at least, Orochimaru seems to trust him, though Kabuto could have deceived him).

For example: what if Orochimaru ordered Kabuto to act as a spy and is merely observing? He could have used the rabbit to send a message to Kabuto - perhaps he has noticed Naruto and company. Otherwise the rabbit is really rather random.

I've never been too sure about Kabuto's loyalty. I mean, especially during the part with him and Kimimaro, something about it just kept making me think about whose side Kabuto was really on. Kinda like he was urging Kimimaro just to get rid of him (could have just been me though...).

EDIT:
About the spa scene:
At the moment Naruto stands, Sai looks and says (untranslated):
"Nanda... Yappari chiyanto (chyanto?) tsuitenda."
[only kanji is the "tsu" in "tsuitenda"]

Only I can translate is "Nanda" being an interjection (like Sai saying "is that all?" or "that's nothing") and yappari being "after all". Someone else with more skills will have to get the rest.

Random Question:

Do you guys think it is a crappy idea to follow the CN dub or should I read the manga? what I mean is, would it take too long until the plot gets really good?

I would appreciate a link to the manga, but as Myoti knows I am really busy with getting to Volume 40 in One Piece so i`d push Naruto asside a little bit.

Another random question:

Since the Zanbuza Arc has the story gotte wicked good?

Well, I'm not saying that it actually is the true storyboard of Masashi Kishimoto.

In truth, I'm kind of hoping that this storyboard isn't true (even if there is supposed 'evidence' to support it) because... well I dunno. It doesn't seem satisfying. And there are still a few parts left unanswered by the supposed 'storyboard'.

It could just be that someone started a rumor and it got a little far. o_o; But the person that posted it where I read it claimed that it was true. u_u; I have no way of knowing.

Anyway, I'll go find the page and post the link so you can look at it if you want to. I don't wanna post it cause it contains huuuuge spoiler-type things. o_o; So I warn you now...

The anime is generally faster than the manga, unless you're willing to spend hours a day reading the latter. Is Naruto close to the end of the Zabuza Arc yet? If so, it is nearing one of the better parts of the anime.

Tom Dincht wrote:Since the Zanbuza Arc has the story gotte wicked good?

Well, it has definitely gotten better. Shortly after that arc the story enters the Chuunin Exams, which I now believe contain some of the strongest writing in the series. It is also at this point that many of the major elements for the overall storyline are introduced.

Really UC? I find the anime infinitely slower. Then again, I can read really fast...

On Christmas I re-read Naruto and got the whole way through to the latest chapter. I'm a little late on this, but I love seeing the characters more grown up. I loved the puppet fight.

Not to mention being intorduced to (and expanded upon) many of the characters who will be a big part of the rest of the series.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I merely meant that the American manga will be released slower than the American anime. Yes, in terms of time spent presuming you possess all the series, the manga is far faster.

Yes, I think it is more or less as I called it. I've assumed Orochimaru had some special reason to trust him after the incident in which Tsunade tried to kill him.

I think that the conflict between Orochimaru's organization and Akatsuki could provide some of the energy that the manga needs. Also, I must wonder when Sasuke will reach the point where he returns to Konoha, in that he isn't really evil, just a bit too obsessed with power.
