Prettiest game?

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

I think the prettiest games of recent history would all have to be PC. Just some examples: (in order) Morrowind, F.E.A.R., and Far Cry. I would mention Half-Life 2, but MSP has got that already.

Um, MSp, I really hope that`s just in your opinion. I`ve played many rpgs better than FF6 IMO.

As for you`re FF6 and Super Mario RPG comment, let`s take a peak:

FF6:
http://eric.halo43.com/images/psx/ff6/?C=M;O=A

SMRPG:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.smrpglegacy.com/Nintendo%2520Pictures/Super%2520Mario%2520RPG/SMRPG%2520Fight%2520Against%2520Smithy.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.smrpglegacy.com/v3-smrpgscreenshots.htm&h=162&w=156&sz=11&tbnid=_3o5voemXoYJ:&tbnh=92&tbnw=88&hl=en&start=1&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsuper%2Bmario%2Brpg%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

Anyways if we`re talking about prettier graphics MSP I can understand, but when it comes to realistic, I`m sorry, the little plummer takes the cake.

I'm also going with SMRPG on this one. And, you are wrong, MSP, Seiken Densetsu 3 did own.

Well, this isn't a thread about realistic graphics, just pretty graphics.

Though, in my opinion, Seiken Densetsu 3 was the pinnacle of SNES graphics capability, and pretty much everyone else agrees. Plus, everyone knows that it's been scientifically proven through rigorous testing that Chrono Trigger is the greatest RPG of all time. So I think his comments can be safely ignored.

P.S. Your first link doesn't work, Tom.

When you say SD3 owned do you mean by graphics or gameplay? If gameplay, then I would just like to request that debate stops but if it`s about graphics I would like the debate to stop as well (My opinion: SD owns).

The first link works for me. Everything underlined in blue is clickable and leads to a picture.

To an extent, realistic is going to mean pretty in a lot of cases. Look at the Far Cry pic I posted. Is that not pretty?

Hmmm... I'm gonna have to disagree... Actually, no I'm not... SD3 was FAR prettier than FF6... And as for it being inferior to SD2... SD2 was good, but not THAT good... It was like a first generation SNES game, and it was the pinnacle at its time, but SD3 surpassed it in every way. Better Story (and multi-linear story that worked), better graphics, better gameplay, better music... Of course, I liked the music in FF6 better than SD3, and the Story better in 6, too... For pure replay value (ignoring those horrible endless godbeast battles), though, SD3 was king... We are talking about pretty, though... SD3 was totemo kirei!!!

This Nih-hone-go brought to you by Frosted Flakes. [button="big digression"]Which brings me to a funny story... I once had this friend who had a teacher he hated whose name was **Mrs Kellog** so I made a game on Klik *n * Play to mock all of his schoolyard enemies, and had a villain named **Frosted Flake** who was ice and would harm you with icy dandruff... Good times... Actually, I felt stupid afterwards because he got me to mock one of my own friends, though I didn*t make him a villain (I don*t think) Man... I was easily swayed by friends, especially pushy ones[/button]

Who cares about the graphics? What's really important is fun (and often original) gameplay! Although pretty graphics are bonus.

I don't know about the most beautiful games out there, but 2 of the most beautiful games that I have played are Myst and Ico.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The two most beautiful games I have ever seen. There are parts in those games where you just want to fix the camera in one position and stare at the screen. I shudder to think of what the guys who made this game will be able to do on the PS3.

Well, as i have said it is all in a matter of opinion. I would like an up-to-date remixed soundtrack for FF6 myself. That or an FF6 remake will do.

Back on topic, i think the pretty qualities of the game in this thread is primarily refering to the graphics as oposed to other qualities that would make the game.....pretty.

Ask, and it shall be given.

S-E is doing a remake for the GBA.

It's not exactly a remake. More like a combination port of TOP-PSX and TOP-SNES.

TOP is a great game but I'm wondering how well this will actually do as TOP's battle system is likely going to come off clunky and primitive to those who were only introduced to the series with Tales of Symphonia.
It doesn't really help that the GBA one is supposed to be the worst of the three versions available.

PJ: It has been debating for along time but FF fans have been waiting a lot longer for FFXII. Unfortunately, FFXII has crappy gameplay compared to the series` past games.

Here is some screenshots for the beautiful-graphiced FF12:

I'm not really into fighting games, but I was very impressed with Soul Caliber III. The graphics were excellent - and they were only made better by the fact that the game controls worked well, too.

I've played good looking games before that looked great, but all of the graphics caused the game play to be jerky, slow down, or hang completely. Not so with Soul Caliber.

I'd have to say that the first three places belong to Myst 3, 4, and 5. Those things are just jaw-dropping...sometimes I simply wander around the environments so I can see the sights and hear the sounds.

Nothing beats the later Myst games in total darkness with high quality headphones.
