Out of My Element, But Not Antagonistic

Postby Lady Macbeth » Mon Dec 19, 2005 10:51 pm

Hi!

I'm Lady Macbeth, 25 years old (26 years old on the 25th of this month) and just finished with college. :) I'm married and have two cats and a dog.

I'm an artist and writer, and I spend most of my free time reading manga and watching anime. My favorite titles are unfortunately frowned upon, so I will not detail those here.

I found this website through a link on SerenityBuzz.com, the website for the Christian manga series "Serenity", and since I decided to contribute to the thread discussing that manga, I figured I'd better introduce myself as well. :)

For those who haven't read that thread, I'll say up front that I'm Pagan (hence the "Out of My Element" part of my subject line) but I am married to a Christian and I have no problems reading Christian material (hence the "But Not Antagonistic" part). I am very much interested in Christian views on life in general as well as anime and manga, so this seemed like a good place to start. :)
Toto, I don't think we're in Oz anymore...

Probably not the Boo that you're talking about, though. Her Boo is a sweetheart.

Welcome, Lady Macbeth. Although, as Kae proved, we do not bite, we do tend to get very silly. :) I hope you don't get scared away. There's a lot of writers here so you'll feel right at home though. :)

Thanks for the welcome! :) I hope I'll get to know people here! I've been prowling around to find threads that I can post in, and reading up on the rules for each forum.

I do have one question - I found the Rules threads for most forums and topics, but I'm having trouble finding the rules for the Art Contests forum. Are the rules different and specific for each contest? For example, in the December Coloring Contest thread, I found the deadline by reading through the thread, but I couldn't find any other rules. I don't want to accidentally post wrong or break a rule by mistake.

Thanks all!

As far as I know, yes, they are specific to those particular contests. They're run semi-officially, so feel free to ask whomever announces the next one any specific questions.

Hajimemashite. We certainly don't mind non-Christian users, and have had many such (and often active) users before and currently, as long as it's clear that Christianity is the official stance of the site. Otherwise, please enjoy yourself.

WElcome to the board, I hope you enjoy your time here.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Welcome to the forums; we're glad to have you with us. It looks as though you'll be a good contributer to our discussions here.

Mine? It's a Yahoo!Avatar, cropped down to 80x80. In Yahoo!Mail you have a little avatar next to your name when you log in that you can change the hair, eyes, clothes, etc on - I just designed one to look like me. :)

Though my hair is dark brown now, not red. Even though I loved my red hair, I'm going back to my natural color so that I don't have to keep redying the roots.

My profile pic is the same Yahoo!Avatar, just zoomed out for a full length shot and compressed to fit file size limits. :)

That was my first thought as well.

Welcome, Lady Macbeth. I should warn you that we tend to shorten names here. So pick a nick while the pickin's good, or you may be given one you may not prefer. Like I was.

I look forward to reading more of your posts.

People tend to call me "Lady M" or "LM" on other boards...or whatever crosses their mind at the time. As long as you quote me when replying to something directly, I'll know who you're talking about.

 I could see how that would be a problem. If I feel the need to shorten a name, I usually just grab the first part of the name, or the first letter of each part - in your case, either "Anime" or "AH".

But for the most part, I just type the whole thing out.

For the most part in my experience people do not shorten only part of a name, but if they did, it is possible they could call you A Heretic, which would be a level worse.

On the subject of nicknames, I have acquired a ridiculous number of them. When I joined CAA, there was a much smaller character limit for the usernames, so I shortened "uncreative pseudonym" arbitrarily. That turned out to be a fateful decision.

Oh... :(

I have a propensity to call him US for some reason. That became CS which became Clive Staples. I just call him clive now.

My nick usually gets shortened to Mith or Mithy. There are a few ways people could abuse it, but no one has figured them out yet, so I'm certainly not going to post them. ;)

Anyway, welcome to the Nuthouse!

BTW: I'm surprised no one else said anything, but you appear to share a birthday with a very special friend of mine, though I admit I would hate to have to be upstaged by that every year.

Indeed I do. I was actually surprised that no one had mentioned it yet myself - I know the Department of Motor Vehicles, various jobs I've applied for, and most other applications that require my birthdate has at least one employee who has to mention it every time.

I'm used to it. And no, I don't get double presents.
