.hack// Franchise

This thread is about the whole .hack franchise.

(Heh, and you thought "Franchise" was a new game.)

I just bought Infection as well as Suikoden IV (Yes, it was a Christmas gift to myself) and noticed there was an anime DVD. I started watching it and just beat the tutorial with Orca in the game. Does the DVD cover the game or is it just a seperate story?

Is it a coincidence the main character of //SIGN looks like Kite?

I heard there`s a new .hack game coming out. When i say a new .hack game it can`t be in one purchase though. It is a trilogy and spans across fourc seperate discs in different "cases." .hack//GU Resuurection part one will be released for the PS2 soon.

Sign? The anime? The main character being Tsukasa, the mage person?

Oh, and what does .hack play like?

Sort of like Kingdom Hearts or Dark Cloud. It`s a seweet action RPG with MMORPG elements such as chatting with fake characters and recruiting them. They will sometimes become unavailable because they are offline.

It's a story that takes place at the same time as the game.

As for the game itself, well, it had an interesting premise and could be fun at points, but I really found it overly repetitive...

I've only played through the first one.

Repetition doesn't bug me, what bugs me is getting put to sleep / paralyzed and getting killed slowly... Since most of the big events must take place while you're along, this is particularly annoying... I never beat infection...

Ahh... the .hack video games. I haven't picked those up in quite awhile. They were great up until Quarantine. Even though they were repetitive, they were still fun to play (except Quarantine). I really enjoyed Outbreak, proabaly my favorite in the series.

I don't think anyone touched on it, either, so.... I think you're talking about Liminality, right Tom? Liminality only kind of has to do with the video games. You hear about things that happen in the games in Liminality, but that's about the extent of it. Also, if you pay attention to the anime, you'll notice that they mention a few area names. If you go to those areas in the game, they give you some neat items.

I don't think I ever really had that type of problem, but then I tended to redo the dungeon if I got too bad off. Or just avoid/run away from enemies that I knew were too much trouble. Heh.

Quarantine was such a step down from Outbreak. The game is probably just about as long as all of the others, but only has about 5 story dungeons in it (they're not even very long; you just have to spend 5 hours hunting for obscure Virus Cores that you thought you'd never need again). To me, it just felt like they forgot that they had to make an ending to the game, so they just threw something together to appease the fans. Then there's that secret dungeon... 100 floors of data-bugged Mu Guardians... *shudders*

It's not in the way of the story, but rather in the gameplay. The story was still good, but they could have done a better job with the game (or at least make it worth 50 bucks).

Seems like any of the games are hard to find nowadays >_< I've only got the first 3 and they were all reasonably priced (mostly previously played, but in good condition). Still need to FIND Quarantine though, since I didn't get it when it first came out and it seems sort of impossible to find ANYWHERE at the moment! Either they all sold out everywhere I seen them, or just disappeared off shelves...

Try eBay or something. Online is the best place to go if you can`t find games.

I got Infection for 17 smackaroonies.
